City of La Mirada

Dedicated To Service Andrew McNally, founder and president of Rand McNally Publishing Company, came to California in the 1880s.

In 1888, he purchased almost 2,300 acres of rangeland, which was part of Rancho Los Coyotes, and named the area La Mirada, which in Spanish means "The View". He set aside 1,500 acres to be used for gentlemen's estates, hoping to attract friends from Chicago. On the remaining acreage, which he named Windermere Ranch, he built a home, a barn, a caretaker's home and had olive, orange and lemon groves

On Monday, street improvements began on Rosecrans Avenue from Valley View Avenue to east of Beach Boulevard, and on La Mirada Boulevard from Leffingwell Road to Alondra Boulevard. Construction includes crack seal, pavement repairs, slurry seal, and striping. Some detours will be required. Traffic delays due to temporary lane closures are expected Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Project completion is expected in June. We appreciate your patience.

This project is part of the City’s Slurry Seal Program. Slurry seal is applied every seven years as a preventive maintenance strategy to achieve the full, useful life of the existing pavement. For more information, call Public Works at (562) 902-2385.
