I made arrangements to take a vacation day last Thursday. I did this on Tuesday which showed a rain free forecast. As Thursday approached it was evident our trip to Mounts Botanical Garden would be a wash out.
What do you do when it rains on your photography outting?
You take pictures of rain drops!

I spotted this unusual bee at Mounts Botanical Garden. I believe it is a stringless melipona bee.
The following text is from wildflphoto dot com:
These are known as stingless honey bees and are native to the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico. These bees are now being cultivated by beekeepers in Cuba, where they have also reported to now be found wild.
Honey from Melipona bees has been harvested as long as 3000 years ago by the Mayan civilization and at least two species - Melipona beecheii and M. yucatanica - are kept by beekeepers in Central America today. These bees are suffering in their native territories from habitat loss.
Melipona bees produce much less honey than the European honey bees that most of us are familiar with. The honey is also more citrus-flavored and thinner. It can even be sipped through a straw straight from the little honey pots in the hive.

Pentax K1 - Rare SMC Pentax-A 35mm F2.8 @ F10 - 1/160th second for all images - this is not an HDR...
This reminds me of a highway man painting. We also observed 3 deer who crossed our path. They were skittish and close to a couple who her ahead of us. I was hoping to take a landscape with them in the background.

My interest in photography was initially spurred by my love of nature and the pleasure I experience photographing South Florida's wetland areas. Each photo tells a story. I think it's far more interesting knowing what was involved in getting the shot than simply the end result and the few moments taken to release the shutter.
