State Representative Kathy Schmaltz, Lansing, MI Videos

Videos by State Representative Kathy Schmaltz in Lansing.

One of the reasons I ran for office was to help our most vulnerable citizens. I am currently working on legislation which would help our Veterans.

My bill would create a Hyperbaric oxygen Therapy Pilot Program for our veterans who had Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) and PTSD. Seven other states have this legislation in place, and it has shown to be effective in treating both TBI and PTSD.

We need to do all that we can to help our Veterans.

Inflation has taken a toll on all of us. Thats why I have introduced legislation which will cut your taxes and when they're cut, they will stay that way. I hear your concerns and I will continue working towards this. I want everyone to be successful.

Everyday life has gotten so tough for many of our families. I hear you and I have a plan to help.

My job in Lansing is to make life easier for you – not tougher. That is always my focus along with taking care of our most vulnerable people.

Thank you to the Jackson School of the Arts for the wonderful artwork to showcase in my Lansing office. They are beautiful!

I was honored to introduce the state house resolution for Police Week in Michigan May 12th-18th. It's important to always support our law enforcement. Thank you for your hard work, dedication, and for protecting us.

Happy International Women's Day!

Veteran's Day at Michigan's Military Heritage Museum
This Veteran's Day I had the honor of visiting the Michigan Military Heritage Museum in Jackson. This museum is a great place to reflect and remember the sacrifices made by those who have come before us and fought to ensure our freedoms are upheld. Today and every Veteran's Day, we honor and celebrate the brave men and women who have served our country in the military. From the American Revolution to the present day, veterans have sacrificed their time, their health, and even their lives to protect our freedom. They have fought for our country in times of war and peace, and they continue to serve our communities in countless ways. On this Veteran's Day, let us take a moment to remember and thank our veterans for their service. #VeteransDay #ThankAVeteran

Happy Mothers Day to all of the wonderful moms out there!

Providing an update from the floor of the House of Representatives.

Happy to have my first bill signed into law!

Schmaltz 3rd Grade Reading Law Floor Speech
Today, the 3rd Grade Reading Law repeal was brought up for a vote. I introduced an amendment that would preserve the law while empowering parents to have direct involvement in decisions regarding their children when intervention is warranted due to the student not reading at a 4th-grade level. Unfortunately, this amendment and the 3rd Grade Reading Law were struck down. While this is disappointing, we must continue to work towards sound policy that delivers effective results for our students. We must ensure all our kids can read by the 3rd grade. This should be our priority.
