Mesilla Valley Search and Rescue

This past weekend some of our UTV team members were able to attend and pass a two day OHV certification. We put both the drivers and machines through various obstacles and challenges. Being part of a SAR UTV Unit is much more than normal recreational riding. We transport Personnel, Gear and Often The Subject through difficult and often treacherous conditions. We need our operators to have the skill set and confidence to get through these situations.

A huge thank you to “ team ugly naked guy” and the Bosque Brewing Co. for the generous donation to our team. We were able to add a new cell booster system ( now both a team vehicle and the team Ranger have cell boosting capability ) and we added a new mount for viewing our mapping and thermal imaging in Ranger.

Team is setup and ready for Virgin Galactics Flight 6.

Excellent team training tonight… we had 37 team members in attendance.
We had a lost person behavior training with 3 different types of subjects with three different scenarios. We were able to deploy our new thermal imaging camera on our team Ranger… we were super impressed with camera capabilities. Able to see teams and subjects at over 400 yards and some areas further. Between this camera and thermal drone… we will have a huge improvement in our night search capabilities.

UPDATE… “the ugly naked guys” won the “friends” trivia and won $550 for our Team!!! thank you Hannah, Amanda, Tony and Gene for thinking about our team when you picked a nonprofit to play for!! and thank you Bosque Brewing for hosting and supporting this fundraiser!

Mission for an injured hiker with a compound fracture in ankle. Multi team turn out and Multi agency. Big thanks to Las Cruces Fire Department for sending the Technical team with paramedics out to assist! They were able to package and administer pain meds for subject. Subject was taken out by helicopter to hospital.

As we start 2024… we are excited to say that this is our 30 Year Anniversary of serving our community and State.
We are also deploying the newest tool in our toolbox to help save lives… We now have a Thermal imaging camera for our Team Ranger! This will add to our night search capabilities along with our thermal imaging drone.

We want to congratulate 7 of our new team members, Cecil Campbell, Josh Smaga, Matthew Dawkins, Matt Cyr, Jenny Coe-Stacy, Michelle Johansen, and Joel Valdez for completing the NM SAR Field Certification Test. We would also like to Congratulate Sean Barham for completing the Section Chief Course.

We currently have 37 members on our roster who support our Ground Team, K9 Team, UTV Team, Drone Team, and Communications Team.
We also have our Specialized Operations Teams of K9 Human Remains, Boat Team, and Man Tracking.
