After instilling the Fear of the Lord in Jonah with that whole whale buisness, the Lord sends him to Ninvena, an enemy, a wicked city, a Sin City not too different from Las Vegas to preach 40 days of repentance....

✝️ Lesson: The Love of Christ Through Service

🙏 Let's dive into the heart of today's lesson, a profound passage from the Gospel of Matthew (Matthew 18:5). Here, we read, "Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me." This verse serves as a reminder of the importance of service and love.

🚑 Bishop Barron shares a compelling story about Mother Teresa, who once took in a severely ill child at a hospital in Darjeeling. The sight of the child's emaciated body and the blindness that was leading him towards death was heartbreaking. Yet, Mother Teresa, with deep compassion and love, took the child into her arms, providing him with comfort and care. In this act of selfless love, she embodied the essence of Matthew 18:5.

👩‍🏫 This story underscores the profession of Asawa Ko, who, like Mother Teresa, finds joy in serving Christ through each child she encounters. To be sure, her 'children' are dropped off by loving parents, friends, and family, but still. I can't help but be moved as she takes Joy in serving Christ in each of them.

🇵🇭 In our community, there are many who embody this spirit of service - teachers, Filipinos, SpEd, and GenEd. Their dedication is a testament to God's love, and it inspires us to glorify Him.

🌺 In particular, I want to express my gratitude to Lora, Anna, Rina, and Alma. Their dedication and love serve as constant reminders of Christ's love.

👶 To further enrich our understanding, let's explore some additional resources. The Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) provides valuable insights. According to CCC 2785, we should approach God with a humble and trusting heart, much like children (Matthew 18:3, Matthew 11:25). This sentiment is echoed by St. John Cassian and St. Augustine, who emphasizes the importance of humility and trust in our relationship with God.

❤️ Moreover, CCC 2562 tells us that it is the heart that prays. To ensure our prayers are not in vain, our hearts must be close to God, mirroring the innocence and trust of children.

⚰️ On the other hand, CCC 2285 warns us about the grave consequences of leading others astray, especially the vulnerable like children (Matthew 18:6, 1 Corinthians 8:10-13). God's wrath is severe for those who place stumbling blocks on the path to heaven.

Let us pray:

Our Father in Heaven,
We come before You with humble hearts, reflecting on the lessons we've learned. We acknowledge the love and dedication shown by the teachers in our lives, a true embodiment of Christ's love.
They welcome each child with open arms, living out Matthew 18:5, "Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me." We are inspired by their example and strive to do the same.
Grant us the strength and grace to serve others with love and humility, as Christ taught us. Guide us, Lord, to live out these teachings not only in words, but in our actions.
