June is , and we cannot let the month pass by without discussing that sexual violence can have profound psychological, emotional, and physical effects on victim-survivors. These challenges arenโt easy to navigate, but with the right help and support, they can be managed. Living a happy and fulfilling life is possible. ๐
At Signs of HOPE, we are dedicated to empowering and educating our community with knowledge to prevent sexual violence. Our mission to drive social change and is a community effort and everyone plays a role!
Last week, Adult Education Specialist, Yajaira presented the Sexual Assault 101 training to the Advocates at The LGBTQ Center of Southern Nevada. Thank you for having us in your space and a special shout-out to Yajaira for her presentation!

Happy from all of us at Signs of HOPE! Juneteenth marks a pivotal moment in American history - the end of slavery. As we reflect on this day, letโs acknowledge the struggles, celebrate the resilience of the Black community, and recognize there is still so much work to be done. Letโs continue to advocate for justice and equality for all.
Signs of HOPE is so grateful to have compassionate, resilient, and hardworking team members. ๐You are on the front lines creating gentle and welcoming spaces for victim-survivors to seek support and share their experiences. Thank you for all that you do! Your dedication and efforts do not go unnoticed ๐ A snapshot of just a few of our team members who make Signs of HOPE a special place.โจ
Today we want to honor older victim-survivors who have experienced sexual violence. Older victim survivors are less likely to be believed about their trauma due to age-related issues and misconceptions about dementia. People with dementia and Alzheimer's often retain traumatic memories like sexual violence, and older adults are also more likely to be hospitalized after an assault due to age-related anatomical changes in their body. Our heart goes out with older victim-survivors. We see you and we believe you. ๐
Prevention is key to ending sexual violence and requires education for all of our community, including our youth. It can be easy to want to avoid these topics with young minds as a way to shield them, however, we can still navigate these conversations about consent and healthy relationships in age-appropriate ways. Our educational programs do just that along with being trauma-informed! ๐๐
Last week we had our staff retreat! The staff retreat was an opportunity to get out of the office, have some fun, and learn new things about each other. ๐
We started with a workshop, The Six Types of Working Geniuse where we learned the working geniuses of each staff member and how each one plays an important role in the organization.
Our Director of Counseling, Liz, did an activity on cultural awareness within the organization and followed up with training on Vicarious Trauma for workers in the helping professions.
We also had fun activities! We played Family Feud and had a Signs of HOPE Olympics. The teams consisted of members from different departments. Everyone had a lot of fun interacting with each other outside of the office and we got to see how competitive we all are!๐
Signs of Hope is grateful to have such an amazing, dynamic team!๐
