Daffodil IV Canine Companions Career Change dog

Fourth of July is literally right around the corner & with it, the anxiety for many of our dogs that comes along with it.

My post will be no different than the hundreds of others on social media, but here is my friendly reminder to keep your dogs safe and inside.

Here are some of my top tips for the day:

•Tire them out (safely) & before the fireworks start.

•Make some enrichment feeding toys to give throughout the day and for dinner to keep them fulfilled & awake during the day, so they are tired for the night. If they’ll eat one during the fireworks, go for it!

•Do NOT leave them outside unattended (extreme fear can cause unexpected responses from dogs)!

•Toilet them earlier than normal so you don’t have to take them out at the height of the fireworks.

•If you’re leaving the house without your dogs that night, confine them in a safe space where they can’t destroy anything, injure themselves or get into anything dangerous should they become fearful.

•Happy hoodies can be helpful if you have one or even a dog scarf around the head to drown out some of the sound.

•You know your dog best. If the crate is the best option, use it!

•Lastly, I *PROMISE* you, it is okay to comfort your dog in their time of distress. You don’t have to coddle them or feed into their panic, but soothing, calm petting, accompanied by calm energy and a calm voice can really help. Energy goes a long way with dogs.
