Assembly Speaker Jason Frierson today pledged to preserve essential education for Nevada's young people, beginning with $50 million from the CARES Act. "These funds are a start, but by no means the end. We will continue to prioritize putting any new revenue towards ensuring every student has equal opportunities to education." Majority Leader Nicole Cannizzaro and Speaker Jason Frierson issued the following statement in response to Senate Republican comments on raising taxes on Nevada’s highly profitable mining industry.

“As we've said repeatedly, we’re willing to work with Republicans to raise revenue for the state from those who can afford to pay it. If Senate Republicans want to go bigger on taxing highly profitable corporations in Nevada’s mining industry, they just need to name a number.”

Blocking aid to states during economic crisis is inhumane 02/07/2020

ICYMI: Assemblyman Jason Frierson and Senate Majority Leader Nicole Cannizzaro have this to say to President Trump and Senator Mitch McConnell-- Elected officials have a moral obligation to take care of every constituent. We need you to support the Nevadans who depend on Medicaid, public schools, and local fire departments, too. More significant federal aid is desperately needed, and needed soon. https://lasvegassun.com/news/2020/jun/29/blocking-aid-to-states-is-inhumane/

Electric cars pave road to a cleaner, healthier, better-educated Nevada 02/07/2020

"I want my kids to be happy and healthy. And since I joined the Nevada State Assembly, I’ve tried to pass legislation that guarantees safety and opportunity for all children in our state. We can’t secure their futures without addressing the realities of climate change, because transportation is the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions and Las Vegas is the fastest-warming city in the nation."

Assemblywoman Rochelle Nguyen makes a compelling argument for a cleaner, healthier, smarter Nevada for our kids with electric vehicles in this LVSun column: https://lasvegassun.com/news/2020/jul/01/electric-cars-pave-road-to-a-cleaner-healthier-bet/?fbclid=IwAR1B4_zfsauqO3odGkhhafpJJCt_iPBUeMtv23HoXV_tMHjulW7bZ3iUPJ0

Electric cars pave road to a cleaner, healthier, better-educated Nevada We don’t always think about the relationship between protecting our environment and improving our schools, but it’s actually pretty intuitive: Kids can’t learn when they’re sick. As a parent and as a legislator, I know we’ve got to commit to clean transportation to give all of our kids the...

Statement on the Supreme Court DACA decision from Speaker Jason Frierson:

"Today’s Supreme Court decision upholding DACA is a major victory for not just Dreamers, but for everyone who values justice in this great nation. Our state is a diverse family and we value the Dreamer community who work hard, pay taxes, and make significant contributions to our state. They deserve the peace of mind that comes from today's decision. This, combined with Monday’s Supreme Court decision protecting LGBTQ workers, demonstrates much-needed progress, but there is so much more we need to do to address the challenges and inequalities faced by so many people in our country. The members who make up the Nevada Assembly Democrats are proud to be one of the most diverse caucuses in the country, and we remain committed to fighting for equality and justice for all Nevadans."

"It is so encouraging to know how many people are engaged and willing to participate in democracy. There has never been a more important time. The activity and turnout and the fact that people stayed in line to vote - longer than I think they should have – that kind of commitment during a time like right now is promising to me and that folks are that committed to democracy. The last few weeks have been heavy and difficult coming out of a pandemic and a systemic pandemic of hearts and minds - this has been heavy stuff. We need to focus and come together and bring about change moving forward that is worthy of the sacrifices people have made and the things so many have gone through that have gotten so many folks fired up an engaged….be responsive to what people are wanting." https://www.facebook.com/watch/live/?v=1389239447930538

Nevada Assembly Speaker Jason Frierson thanks all those who participated in Tuesday's state primary & calls on election officials to prevent the long lines that some in-person voters faced. “We must ensure that as we move into the general election Nov. 3, we have a process that is both safe and convenient,” Frierson said. “I’m thankful to every Nevadan who took time to vote, but as we look to the November election, officials must recognize that hours-long waits discourage voters and should not happen again.”
