Hello Friends and Supporters of The Shade Tree. I learned that an inappropriate post appeared on The Shade Tree’s Instagram account on March 14.
When I was alerted about the post and its content, I took immediate steps to remove it from The Shade Tree’s Instagram account.
I have spoken with leaders from and the .nevada and moving forward, we are working together with them to plan information and awareness sessions for The Shade Tree staff, board and volunteers so that something like this never happens again.
I extend my deepest apologies to the Jewish community and state in the strongest language possible that the views that were expressed in that post are not representative of The Shade Tree organization or me personally.
Thank you for continued support as we transition through a reorganization.

Today The Shade Tree celebrates Kwanzaa!
Brittney Tackett a phenomenal advocate on our Youth Programs team here at The Shade Tree reflects on what Kwanzaa means as we celebrate:
Kwanzaa, which begins on December 26th and ends on January 1st, serves as a meaningful observance that embodies the values of unity, community, and cultural heritage. This annual celebration provides an opportunity to honor the seven principles known as the Nguzo Saba, which include unity (Umoja), self-determination (Kujichagulia), collective work and responsibility (Ujima), cooperative economics (Ujamaa), purpose (Nia), creativity (Kuumba), and faith (Imani).
In recognizing the significance of Kwanzaa, we also acknowledge the broader principles of inclusivity, diversity, and the celebration of cultural diversity. Kwanzaa serves as a crucial reminder of the importance of respecting and valuing diverse traditions, contributing to the cultivation of a more inclusive society for all.
As we prepare to observe Kwanzaa, let us take this opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations, celebrate our shared values, and build bridges across cultures. May the spirit of Kwanzaa inspire us to appreciate the diversity that makes our communities vibrant and resilient.
We here at The Shade Tree would like to wish you a joyous and meaningful Kwanzaa celebration filled with unity, purpose, and the spirit of togetherness.

Today, we are wearing red to show our solidarity and support with UNLV as we are .
So many of our staff have either personally attended, or have an immediate relative, or friend who currently attends or has graduated from UNLV.
This tragic event has brought so much shock to our community. And we want you to know that it is okay to be sad, to be angry, to be disappointed. Violence like this should not happen.
These students and staff are on campus to share knowledge, learn, and grow their futures. The last thing anyone should have to deal with is violence on campus.
We want the community of UNLV to know that you are supported. It is okay to take time to grieve and know that the ENTIRE Greater Las Vegas community is with you.
We also would like to send a BIG THANK YOU to our local first-responders, EMS Teams, and Law Enforcement who acted swiftly and continue to show just what Vegas.
Again, we send all encouragement, healing, and empathy for the loss of life and tragedy.
We are deeply saddened by the events that occurred today at UNlV campus. Please stay safe and keep your loved ones extra close today.
