Project Picture Day is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization fostering emotional needs of students in underserved communities through school picture days
n low-income communities. We provide them with something tangible, something they can hold onto as a reminder of their intrinsic meaning and value. These qualities are not a frivolous luxury, but an absolute necessity in the classroom. Our organization is for the benefit of anyone. We hope to serve every race, gender, socio-economic class, or demography. We are universal in scope and can connect people from every corner of the world. HOW WE DO IT
We dedicate a full day to photographing the students. Upon arriving at a school, we set up two stations with each station consisting of 1 DSLR camera, 1 tripod, 1 light stand and 1 external flash. After photographing the students, we transfer the photos to our laptops and edit each portrait with photographic software. Finally, we print on 2-3 portable printers that produce 4 x 6 inch, glossy portraits. Within 24 hours, each student receives his or her school portrait, a pencil, and a notebook. Any surplus school supplies are donated to the school. WHY IS IT IMPORTANT? The word ‘need’ is immediately associated with basic necessities such as food, shelter, water and clothing. However, emotional needs are just as significant to the growth and development of children. Emotional needs such as being valued, supported, understood and loved are the building blocks necessary for positive change. Our mission touches on a variety of emotional needs to help encourage students to stay in school and better themselves, their communities and their futures.
