3 Years of Sobriety ❤️🙏🏽

I took a chip this week at Celebrate Recovery - Central Henderson to commemorate my 3 years of being sober 🙌🏾 It was absolutely SURREAL and I kept it in my hand the entire night since receiving it.

There were so many nights and mornings I was high on co***ne or drunk from whiskey that I prayed for a time I could stop. I wanted to be sober, I just couldn’t imagine how it would look or start.

My faith played a big part 🙏🏽 Once I started attending church regularly in 2017, it created a foundation of love in my life that I was missing for 14 years.

A huge help was PSI Seminars and attending their Basic Seminar 🙌🏾 There, I found a love of myself I hadn’t had since I was 5 years old, and I gained tools to pour into myself regularly.

Once I loved the guy in the mirror (ME), then doing coke all night in random places didn’t feel right 🤷🏽‍♂️ I was taking drugs and alcohol all those years because I didn’t like who I saw in the mirror, and being buzzed, drunk, or high made life feel more bearable.

Along the years I’ve learned to respect that I don’t have an OFF switch 🙈

1 glass of wine ? Why not a bottle ?!
1 shot of tequila ? Why don’t we party all night ?!
1 puff of w**d ? Let’s get some coke to even out

It’s just how my brain is wired 🤷🏽‍♂️ I thought for years I could moderate, and I found I’m just not that person, and that’s OK ! ❤️ The same brain that took me from small bars in NYC to DJing around the world DJing in the biggest clubs is the same brain that doesn’t understand why 1 beer is enough. I’m ok with this, and I’m glad I lived to see the day where I would be 🙏🏽

Addiction is a disease and EVERY DAY is a win. I could always go back to what I was doing and I could always slip up. I’m very aware and that’s why I CELEBRATE my sobriety every month 🙌🏾 I never imagined how I’d stop for 3 months let alone 36 months in a row.

I GET to be a Sponsor ❤️

I’ve humbly been asked by someone in recovery to be their sponsor as they share their inventory 🙏🏽

During a 12 step recovery program, the 4th step is to write an inventory which means taking an honest look at all of your good and bad character traits.

When I did my inventory, I got the opportunity to look through my ENTIRE life and share ALL of the hurts I experienced or did to others because of my own hurts.

During this process, I shared things I hadn’t thought of in years and things I had never said aloud.

I cried a lot when I was done 😭

My sponsor looked at me when I was done sharing and said the words from Romans 8:1, “So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.” ❤️

It was a beautiful experience and for the first time since I was a very small child, I got to fully BREATHE 🙏🏽

Thankful I get to be a sponsor and live the 12th step, “Put into practice what you've learned and carry the message of faith and recovery to other addicts.” ❤️

Grateful, thankful, and humbled 🙏🏽🙌🏾
