Homicide Update:

LVMPD investigators need your help in the murder investigation of 30-year-old Darin Algee.
Detectives learned the shooting occurred before 8:30 p.m. on August 8, 2024, as the victim drove his gray 2017 Audi Q5 SUV in the fast lane of I-15.

Detectives believe the shooting took place between the Spring Mountain Road on-ramp and the Flamingo Road off-ramp of I-15 Southbound. In addition, detectives believe the unknown suspect and vehicle also travelled southbound on the I-15 HOV lane.

We are asking for the public’s assistance for anyone who remembers seeing the victim’s vehicle prior to the shooting or provide any information on suspicious activity that could lead to the arrest and identification of the suspect involved.

Anyone with any information about this incident is urged to contact the LVMPD Homicide Section by phone at 702-828-3521, or by email at [email protected]. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers of Nevada, Inc. by phone at 702-385-5555, or on the internet at www.crimestoppersofnv.com.

Today, we remember Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Officer Clark Wooldridge who lost his life on August 14, 1979. We are thinking of his family and friends. His sacrifice is not forgotten.

Officer Wooldridge was killed in an automobile accident while responding to a report of a fight caused by a traffic crash. During the response his patrol car collided with another vehicle, overturned, and became engulfed in flames. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries two days later. Officer Wooldridge was 22.

On August 7th, “Officer Christopher Allen Day” was proclaimed in honor of Officer Allen, who was recognized as the “Citizen of the Month” by Councilwoman Nancy Brune of Ward 6. This recognition was in response to events that unfolded on June 20, 2024. While driving home on the 215, LVMPD Summerlin Area Command Officer Allen noticed a vehicle traveling the wrong way on the opposite side of the median. He immediately called 911 to report the emergency and followed the vehicle.

Tragically, a head-on collision occurred when the wrong-way driver collided with oncoming vehicles. Without hesitation, Officer Allen pulled over, climbed over the median, and rushed to help the victims whose vehicles had become engulfed in flames. Sadly, two individuals lost their lives, but Officer Allen's heroic efforts to render aid in such a chaotic situation did not go unnoticed. This incident exemplifies the selfless nature of Officer Allen, both in his professional career and as a genuine human being.

Body camera video from a responding LVMPD officer shows a brief interaction between Officer Allen (in the gray shirt) and those on the scene.

ENZO UPDATE!

LVMPD K9 Enzo is back on the job after the stabbing incident that nearly took his life. His partner reports that all his injuries from the incident on March 29 have healed. Since returning to work in mid-July, Enzo has already apprehended three suspects!

🎂 Enzo also turned 3 years old last Monday (July 29)! 🎂

We want to thank everyone from around the world who sent well wishes and love to Enzo. We've included a photo of Enzo's handler's desk, which was constantly filled with items that people sent. WOW!

Enzo has no lasting effects from the incident and is back out there protecting our community. 💙

BACK TO SCHOOL TRAFFIC SAFETY!

This morning, we participated in an important message to our entire community. Many Clark County students are returning to classes next Monday and we need drivers to pay attention, slow down, and drive with kindness.

Reminders:
❓How can you tell if a school zone is active?
✅ Three ways to know: Kids/students are present, 🟡 Flashing lights are on, or 🕞 30 minutes before and after the school day.

🚌 Obey flashing red lights and stop signs on school buses.

🗓NRS: 484B.363
❌ No U-Turns in school zones
❌ No passing in active school zones (the slowest driver sets the speed limit. If the speed limit is 15 mph, but a driver in the school zone is going 11 mph, then 11 mph is the speed limit.

Last school year, 138 students were struck by vehicles while on their way to or from school. That was a 100% increase over the previous school year.

Yesterday, We told you about how we celebrated LVMPD Summerlin Area Command Officers Jeremy Robertson and Diana Wohlers during a Good Ticket ceremony at Resorts World Las Vegas.

Here is a look at the body camera video that shows what happened.
Recently, these officers located a missing woman who needed urgent medical care. Officers Robertson and Wohlers found the confused and disoriented woman in a steep flood control area. The specific flood channel was difficult to access by vehicle, but they needed to get the woman to medical attention. They devised a plan and used an ATV, purchased by the Howard Hughes Corporation and donated to LVMPD.
Their body camera video showed their concern and compassion for the woman in distress. Thanks to their actions, the woman was evaluated by medical personnel and returned safely home.

UPDATE: 2:40 p.m.: This morning at approximately 10:06 a.m., the LVMPD Air Unit was conducting a routine flight over the Southwest part of the valley. During the flight, the pilot and Tactical Flight Officer (TFO) heard the aircraft make a sound and felt vibration.

Out of the abundance of caution, the pilot landed the helicopter near West Pebble Road and South Arville Street. There were no additional passengers onboard and its occupants did not sustain any injuries.

The helicopter was towed back to LVMPD Air Support where aircraft mechanics will perform a thorough inspection. The roadway was closed for approximately 3 hours but is now open.

UPDATE 1:39 p.m.: The roadway will be closed for a few hours. The helicopter will be loaded onto a flatbed trailer and towed back to the hanger. Again, no injuries to the officers, or citizens. No property damage.

JULY COMMENDATIONS!

This afternoon, we celebrated almost 60 officers for their outstanding actions and service to our community.

Among the honorees were the police officers who raced to help Officer Matthew Nardone on Feb. 2, 2024, after he’d been shot during an incident on US 95 and Charleston. Also, Officers Christopher Marcolini and Officers Carlos Silva (Officer Jesus Manzanedo was honored but unable to attend) for their efforts to save a woman from a burning apartment.

Undersheriff Walsh says these are just some examples of the excellent, life-saving work our officers do daily.

CARING FOR THE COMMUNITY!

LVMPD Bolden Area Command Officer Jennifer Parker, alongside her dedicated squad, has worked tirelessly to build a bridge of unity and support between LVMPD and the children at a group home near Jones and Charleston. She's gotten to know each of the children on a first-name basis and she knows their individual circumstances.

Officer Parker and her squad (BA24) have gone above and beyond, using their own money to purchase properly fitting clothes and shoes, books, games, and indoor activities for the children.

Officer Parker also coordinated with Bolden Area Command's Community Oriented Policing section to secure additional items.

A special shoutout to Officer Conrad for donating a punching bag and stand, Sgt. Parker from LVMPD Convention Center Area Command for delivering the equipment, Officer Ottomanelli for securing a basketball and other toys, Omar Lopez for assisting with pizza donations, and Officer Johnson for providing brand new shoes.

This special showing of love brought joy and comfort to the children. We look forward to organizing more events like this soon with these kids who have already faced so much uncertainty.

Thank you to everyone involved for their incredible support and generosity.

Officer Parker says calls for services at the group facility have dropped significantly since this outpouring of love and community caring by our officers.

Great work, Officer Parker and team! 💙
