presents the 29th edition of my annual Christmas painting-present to The Lovely Belle (a tradition that I started in 1995, when we started dating)...

The painting is called "Nobody Bodies Me (I S on You)" (24" x 24", Paint Marker and Acrylic Paint on Canvas). The artwork shows our son physically dominating an opponent during one of his high school varsity soccer matches, where he plays offense. The first part of the painting title came from a boast that our now 16-year-old son, Brandon, once made when he was about 13 or 14 - in regard to his refusal to be physically dominated by an opponent. The second part of the painting's title comes from the nickname that Belle and I gave to the photograph the first time we saw it. As soon as I saw the photo - taken by a friend, who is also the photographer for the team - I KNEW that this would be the muse for this year's artwork...

I tried something a little different this year. Aside from using more colors to bring the artwork to life (18), I used more vibrant colors, as well. After I rendered the figures in my sketch, I wanted to do something more than paint a realistic background. I channeled one of my favorite Pop artists, Roy Lichtenstein (1923-1997), who often painted single frames of comic books - with or without words. So, I added the onomatopoeia "POW!" word and the explosion lines to add some gravitas to the situation occuring in the artwork.
