Celebrate! #BlackHistoryMonth ✨ In our spotlight this week is a piece choreographed by one of our guest artist -in-residence, Christopher Huggins. This piece, “Have We Landed on the Moon?”, was a 25 minute piece that was apart of our faculty concert “Now Is The Time,” Spring 2021. We hope you enjoy this highlight reel as much as we enjoyed Christopher’s time at our department!😊 ________________________________ @christopherhugginsdance @unlvfinearts
While music is always in dance, what about dance in music? In this December 2020 interview, Dr. Mehocic talks about the journey that led her to being a composer for dance, the collaboration process between musician and choreographer, and the creation of Resonant String. Thank you for your years of knowledge and artistry Dr. Mehocic. You are dearly missed❤️ Thank you to @unlvnextet for allowing us to use your interview to honor Dr. Mehocic and her work.😁
Dr. Beth Mehocic was such an innovative and talented composer. As we look back at her time with UNLV, we are reminded of her great collaborations with our faculty. Here are just a few of her pieces in the past. Any you may recognize?🤔🎶

DAN 288 Choreography Class
A sneak peak at the first dance project for our DAN 288 Choreography class.
The students learned Rudolph Laban's 8 effort types of movement:
-Wring
-Press
-Flick
-Dab
-Glide
-Float
-Punch
-Slash
The assignment was to choose one of the efforts and use it to propel you into the space. While in the space, students chose 1-3 efforts to explore. They then used a final effort to move them out of the space.
Randomly, students chose a number out of a hat. The number created an order for them to overlap the small studies to the music of Nils Fraum.
Bravo to these dance majors:
Geri Wachtel, Bo Bischoff, Caroline Martin, Greta Baker-Hodge, Cassie Gilbert, Chyna Fugate, Nadya Berggren, Lexee Howes, and Violet Curland.
