There's still time to register for the 21st annual Lawrenceville School Big Red Race on Sunday, May 5! This year’s 5K and accompanying shorter distance children’s races will benefit HomeWorks Trenton, Trenton’s first free, after-school residential program, the Lawrence Township Education Foundation, the Lawrence Township Community Foundation, and local food pantries. HomeWorks was founded by Lawrentian Natalie Tung '14, who says proceeds from the race will help HomeWorks continue providing our free, community-based after-school residential program, equipping the next generation of community leaders. Welcome, Larrie! 🐾 At today’s all-School meeting, Lawrentians met their school’s new biggest fan, the incREDible Larrie the bulldog. “Lawrenceville has long used a bulldog as an informal athletic symbol, so when we embarked on the creative process to identify a school-wide mascot, Larrie was the consensus and fitting choice,” said Dean of Athletics and Co-Curricular Education Tripp Welborne. “Lawrenceville’s philosophy of dependability and perseverance manifests itself in Larrie. Like a dog going after a bone, you can count on Lawrentians to never give up!” Read more about Larrie at the Lawrenceville News link in our bio!

Happy Holidays from The Lawrenceville School
Happy Holidays from The Lawrenceville School. May the portrayals of light we find on campus brighten your holiday season.

Amélie is an extraordinary young woman who lives quietly in the world of Montmatre, France, but loudly in her mind. She covertly improvises small but surprising acts of kindness that bring joy and mayhem. But when a chance at love comes her way, Amélie realizes that to find happiness she’ll have to risk everything and say what’s in her heart. Check out this behind-the-scenes look at the production from student news show @l10news - find the full clip here: https://www.lawrenceville.org/life-at-lawrenceville/news-events/news-detail/~board/performing-arts-news/post/go-behind-the-scenes-of-lawrencevilles-2023-musical-amlie

Lawrenceville’s Rabbi Lauren Levy shares her thoughts on what Yom Kippur means for the Jewish community. Lawrenceville offers Reform or Conservative services for students to attend, and a break-the-fast meal at Rabbi Levy's house following the end of the fast tonight. Fifth Former Zach Kalafer also wrote a reflection about how Jewish Lawrentians recently observed Rosh HaShana, the Jewish New Year. He notes that Rabbi Levy held a celebration at her house, welcoming Lawrenceville’s Jewish community to gather together as a people and a family, to celebrate the coming of a sweet new year with equally sweet apples and honey, and eat a delicious meal of other symbolic foods. “On Rosh Hashanah,” Kalafer says, “we usher in the new year with a feast and a celebration in synagogue, sounding the Shofar, a ram’s horn fashioned into an instrument, in a number of patterns 100 times. We can hope that this one of the four new years brings with it prosperity and joy.”

Roll call! House assignments come out today - let us know who you are representing this year, Big Red. When you return to campus you’ll also notice a new array of all 18 House flags in the Tsai Dining Hall. Hung during a four-day installation with custom hardware, the flags showcase a vibrant history and story for each House. The @bunnlibrary Stephan Archives team helped review historic photographs and reference Olla Pods to help determine the original colors of each flag. Some fun facts: 🚩 Thomas House (and subsequently its flag) were named for Gerald Provost Thomas, L.1915. Thomas belonged to the 17th Aero Squadron in WWI whose unit insignia was blue with a white swooping eagle. Therefore, the eagle and background of the flag is white. 🚩The Woodhull House Flag has gone through three color changes. The last rendition of the flag occurred in 1951 when the School decided that the House’s color scheme would be “black and gold.” 🚩Older print editions of flags differed from historical colors, Archives believes, due to the availability of fabric and dye, particularly during wartime. Thanks to partners Alexander Isley Inc. Designers, ARTfx, and New England Flag and Banner, and the @bunnlibrary Archives and Lawrenceville Buildings and Grounds to help design, create and install the new flags. #TheresNoPlaceLikeHouse

A Progress Report on Lawrenceville's Strategic Plan
When Lawrenceville published a new strategic plan for The Lawrenceville School in fall 2016, the School sought to elevate and strengthen the transformational nature of the Lawrenceville experience by drawing on our historical assets: the sense of belonging to a community grounded in character and integrity; engaging and challenging academics that inspire creativity and instill confidence; and life-changing role models dedicated to bringing out the best in every student. The School’s plan, Lawrenceville 20/20, will have met virtually all its goals by this time next year, helped greatly by the success we’re experiencing with the Emerge Transformed campaign. Thanks to the entire Lawrenceville community for your overwhelming support of our shared aspirations. The accompanying video highlights a few of the many achievements of the strategic plan.
