Good afternoon, Kodiak Battalion!
Yesterday, we hosted the Horshoe Tournament for the Kodiak Battalion's Commander Cup!
All three Batteries were represented and the competitors went all out! At the end of the day, Bravo Battery took the gold, marking their third win in a row! They have a solid lead, but there is still plenty of room for HQ/Alpha and Charlie to sneak up and take the lead!

Good morning, Fort Sill!
This morning, Bravo Battery held their Change of Command Ceremony that saw Captain Hami Yazdanpanah relinquish his Command to Captain Kathryn Brickle.
Captain Yazdanpanah expertly served as Bravo Battery's Commander for the past two years. He holds the distinction of being Bravo Battery's first Commander under the new alignment, and worked tirelessly to get his unit stood up and functioning. His efforts paid off and, due to his leadership and his Soldiers, Bravo Battery is now the premier Short Range Air Defense training unit for the US Army and its partners. His next duty assignment in Europe will be lucky to have him!
Captain Brickle has now assumed Command of Bravo Battery, and the Battalion is extremely excited to have her join the team! Captain Brickle previously served as the Executive Officer of 4-3 ADA before attending Captain's Career Course. After graduation, she had a productive stint where she served as an Instructor with Charlie Battery. For 5 months, she skillfully delivered instruction to the Army's newest Medical Officers before she was selected for her new role.
Good luck to you both, Captain Yazdanpanah and Captain Brickle!
Sir, we are sad that you are leaving, but we are happy that you and your family are excited for your next adventure! We thank you for the hard work that you put into Bravo Battery. You truly Set the Standard!
Ma'am, we are thrilled to have you! We cannot wait to see what fresh ideas you have for the Battery and look forward to working with you! We know that you will exceed expectations!

Good afternoon, Kodiak Battalion!
Today, our BOLC and CCC students were fortunate enough to have engagements with two distinguished Air Defenders: Major General Harrison, Commanding General of the 32nd AAMDC; and Brigadier General (Ret.) Fryc, former Commanding General of the 32nd AAMDC.
Both Generals shared insights they gained in their commands, talked about leadership, spoke about the importance of the human dimension, and showed gratitude to the young men and women present for taking up the call to defend the Nation as US Army Air Defense Artillery Officers.

Everyone here at the BN HQ hopes that you all have had an easy time readjusting to your daily tasks after the much needed holidays!
Over the past two weeks, the Kodiak Battalion has said its farewells to three outstanding Non-Commissioned Officers. Those NCOs are SGT Peraza, SFC Sault, and SFC Creason. They were truly irreplaceable and their dedication to the mission will be missed, but the Army needs their hard work elsewhere for now!

And here we are, wrapping our showcase of the Air and Missile Defense Systems Tactician MOS as part of the program! Next week, we will be highlighting the 140L Air and Missile Defense Systems Technician MOS!
Here is CW2 Brandon Henry, a 140K instructor who has spent some time out in the ADA force. CW2 Henry is also a recent participant in the Training With Industry (TWI) program, completing a yearlong tour at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL. TWI is a special program that pairs high-achieving warrant officers with industry partners to help develop future capabilities for the Army, and CW2 Henry has some unique insights to share from his time in the program!
CW2 Henry was kind enough to share his thoughts on why he became a warrant officer, the impact he has out in the force, and his advice to future applicants considering the 140K MOS!
1. Introduction.
Born and raised in Michigan City, Indiana, I enlisted in the Army as a Patriot Fire Control Enhanced Operator/Maintainer (14E) in 2011. Before my accession as a Warrant Officer, I deployed and served in various positions culminating as a platoon sergeant at Fort Liberty, NC and as an AIT instructor at Fort Sill, OK.
2. Was there any particular reason or event that made you consider becoming an Army warrant officer in general? Or a 140K in particular?
Serving in Patriot organizations throughout my enlisted career, I recognized that a gap in proficiency existed within the NCO corps, specifically for those within the 14E field. While NCOs were often present to observe and train launcher reload, the trend regarding fire control training was different. Officers, often delegated the role of battery trainer, stood behind Soldiers in the control stations of multiple fire units ensuring tactical proficiency was gained. Upon arriving at Fort Sill for instructor duty, I focused heavily on improving my tactical understanding of the system to ensure I wouldn’t continue the trend of NCOs I’d observed prior. Shortly thereafter, the 140E MOS split into tactical (140K) and technical (140L) specialties, and I recognized that the MOS of 140K fit the role of a tactician and trainer that I was seeking to fill.
3. Has there been anything you found particularly interesting or challenging about being a 140K out in the force?
I’ve found it interesting that the moment I pinned on a ‘dot,’ my voice at the table has never gone unheard. My recommendations are consistently considered and acted upon. I’ve found that trust in my statements generally goes unquestioned, highlighting the point that we have to remain honest brokers as subject matter experts and advisors.
Regarding challenges, I’ve found opportunities for critical and creative thinking. Following my 2019-2020 deployment, my battalion spent roughly 13 months in garrison before deploying again. After equipment reset, new equipment training, and the lead time for the shipment to USCENTCOM, we had roughly five months with equipment to train an undermanned battalion to a mission-ready organization. I recommended a phased approach to gunnery that included 24-hour operations and no-notice readiness assessments per the deployed standard. My commander agreed, and we certified to a standard exceeding gunnery requirements and successfully assumed our assigned mission shortly thereafter.
4. What was your experience as a 140K during your time with the Training with Industry (TWI) program?
While assigned to the Training with Industry Program, I primarily found myself assigned in the acquisition hub of the Program Executive Office – Missiles and Space (PEO MS). Working in AMD Mission Command, I had the opportunity to learn the process, meet the team, and see the processes for the development of the army’s Integrated Air and Missile Defense Battle Command System (IBCS). Traveling to locations such as White Sands Missile Range, Los Angeles, Austin, and Aberdeen, I routinely engaged with the industry partners responsible for the components being integrated into IBCS’s systems of systems.
5. Was there anything you found particularly interesting or challenging about your time with the TWI program?
My understanding of the army acquisitions system was little to none prior to my time as a TWI student. While contract management wasn’t the most engaging portion, I found myself heavily interested in meeting the primarily DA civilian, government contractor, and defense industry personnel focused on ensuring our warfighters are properly equipped and trained to fight our nation’s wars. Regarding challenges, there’s so much going on regarding AMD in the Huntsville area that it’s overwhelming to figure it out and prioritize effort. While I learned a lot in my year there, I feel I missed out on much more.
6. What do you enjoy most about being a 140K?
As a 140K, regardless of the subject, I am directly involved. Whether it’s the training management of an organization, the engagement of joint and combined partners, or the coordination and employment of fires, my vote matters. I have the opportunity to contribute and observe the tactical development of Soldiers, including junior enlisted, NCOs, and officers. I’m charged with ensuring the employment of AMD systems maximizes capabilities, that TTPs streamline engagement processes, and that defense planning optimally ensures asset protection. It provides a sense of purpose to continue improving my knowledge base.
7. What advice would you give someone who was considering becoming a 140K warrant officer?
There’s no better time than today to become a warrant officer. While time behind the console benefits your transition, I can personally attest through my enlisted experience that it’s not required. If you have the drive to better yourself, better your organization, and put in the work where it’s needed, then you’re ready to take the step towards becoming an AMD Tactician. Put in the work to submit the packet and we’ll put in the work to train you in the skills needed If you feel you’re still not ready after graduation, I promise you we’ve all shared that fear. However, a community of warrant officers will support you when you arrive to the operational force – the same way they did me and every other freshly pinned WO1.
