I was working on my dog fence yesterday and this guy passed through just a few feet in front of me. Be aware because September and October are probably the 2 months out of the year that we see the most snake bites.
My Mama passed away early this week after some unexpected surgical complications. I apologize for being unresponsive and unavailable during this time.

Spring has sprung!!! We love this beautiful weather, but unfortunately so do those nasty viruses and bacterial infections. Also, let’s not forget those disease carrying mosquitoes! Make sure your dogs and cats are up to date on all their vaccines, heartworm, and flea/ticks medications. Call today for at home wellness/vaccine appointments for your pets! (229) 886-2135
Marley said “Sometimes the vet comes to my house and does all my vaccines here, and hangs out by the pool with me!”
I got to go see stunning litter of Doberman puppies today. The weather was great and I got puppy snuggles!
My phone is not working. It is going to take me a few days to get a new one, so please message me here if you need me.

If life is a little crazy and busy and loading the dogs in the car is the last thing you want to do call or message Flying Goose to set up a mobile vaccine and wellness appointment for your pets. (229)886-2135
Today was absolutely slam packed full of puppy love, cuteness and some vaccines(I also had some pretty cute helpers)! These sweet babies are all brand new Flying Goose patients! Everyone had great checkups and had fun at home because the Dr. came to them! It didn’t take them long to find the treats in my box.❤️🐶❤️
Meet Oreo! Her story is amazing! She was a stray that wondered up to the most beautiful house that you could ever imagine. Well, at this house lived a boy that has been begging for a dog of his own. It took a little over a month for the family to gain her trust, but now Oreo is officially part of the family. Today, she had her first checkup and got a great report, and all her vaccines! She now has a free ticket inside per her new mom! She learned today that her vet drives up with a can of squeeze cheese and lots of kisses!
The final logo for Flying Goose Home Veterinary Care is here!!! Along with this comes a big announcement...AT HOME canine and feline wellness now available by appointment only. Call (229)886-2135 for appointments!
This weekend I had to provide my services to my own boy. It was unexpected, but I am so glad we were able to say goodbye to him at home. Toby you were the best boy and we will miss you terribly!
Some days are filled with end of life, and some days get to be filled with new life!
I had Lesley Wonky Smith write something about one of my favorite patients-Sweet Polo T! We all had to say goodbye a few weeks ago — “P” (you can tell she had lots of nicknames), was at home in one of her favorite spots when we peacefully let her go. Here is a peak into her great life.
Thank you P for making me a better vet!

To love a dog is one of the greatest loves in life. But, to have that love returned to you, is one thing you can absolutely not put a price on. That’s what you are going to hear about my Polo! She was the absolute best dog on the planet. Her love for me was unconditional as was mine for her. There are so many precious memories and moments that will last me a lifetime. When she was about 6 months old I wanted to teach her to ride in the back of the truck. Pulled out of the driveway and she JUMPED OUT OF THE TRUCK! I’m pretty sure I almost hit every mailbox in my path and jumped out of the truck with it still in drive trying to get to her. It was at that moment I knew I had a bond and love that would be like nothing I had ever experienced. She was spoiled and that was very evident. She had to have surgery one time, and when I came to pick her up, she was laying on the bed up front with the girls and when she got up there was the biggest pile of drool you had ever seen. She just made herself at home and everyone at the clinic was ok with that. Polo liked routines and, from that point on, she thought she could freely roam the clinic any and every time she was there. She loved taking out the trash with me and anytime she heard me pulling the trash bag out of the can, she came running through the house to go with me. She loved cheese and she could hear the cheese bag open from a mile away. Anytime we had cheese, Polo had cheese. At 5:30 everyday she knew it was time for her walk and if you forgot, she was going to remind you! She was easy going and just wanted to be wherever I was. She was 110 pounds and thought she was a lap dog, but there was nothing more precious than when she would lay her little (big) head in my lap. The one thing that probably stands out the most about Polo was the fact that she got a scrambled egg every morning! Yes, you read that right. A scrambled egg every morning. My morning routine will never be the same without cooking her egg for her. As you can see, Polo was not just a dog. She was my best friend and I am forever grateful for the time I was able to spend with her.

It is with great excitement that I can finally announce the opening of my new small business — in-home end-of-life care for the pets of Leesburg and surrounding areas!
For those of you who may not know me, my name is Dr. Shannon Shepard and I live in Smithville with my husband, Dane, three kids, three dogs, and cat. I have been a companion animal veterinarian in Leesburg, GA for the past 11 years. Last year my “once in a lifetime” dog, Goose, came to the end of his days here on earth and I had to make the hard decision of euthanasia. Being a veterinarian, I was able to complete the process in the comfort of my own home with my family. We spent the day together and the process was as peaceful and stress-free as it could have possibly been. It was at that point that I realized a deficit in Southwest Georgia - euthanasia services that can be provided at a pet’s home where they are most comfortable.
I love being a veterinarian and I strive to provide the highest level of care possible. I also value low-stress encounters, especially when it comes to the ultimate end-of-life decision that is stressful enough in itself.
I look forward to serving our community and giving pet owners peace of mind during the painful decision that is end-of-life care. Please reach out with any and all questions and concerns that you may have.
With love,
Dr. Shannon
