Have you noticed that worry and fear and anxiety steal your energy, make you exhausted, and take over your emotions and thoughts?
God says through Isaiah 30:15, “In quietness and rest will be your strength.”
In other words, we sacrifice the peace of Christ when we choose to try to take control of our circumstances or figure out how our difficulties will all work out. We wrongly think at times we are in control. But in a broken world where we are subject to our own foolishness and sin as well as the chaos of the world and other sinful people, in quietness and rest in God is our strength.
When Jesus was going through the most stressful moments he had on earth, He said to his disciples, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
Today, my friends, live in His peace. Rest in His strength. Peace be yours, the Lord is near.

The only way to get through life with grace is to mount up over the challenges, seeking to live a focused life that fills us a little every day, with a heart that is valiant and unwilling to give in to the woes that tempt us.
We have choices to make, a life to tame, but living in the joy of God is possible. We must be intentional about cultivating personal friendships, taking ten-minute tea breaks to breathe, spending time to read a book or ponder life or to write a note to a friend.
To sail, so to speak, into the clouds with hope requires planning. But living it out will give us what we need to breathe in God’s peace and to rest in His love.

This May Be Why You're Yelling ... - Janet Lansbury “I find that I become one of two moms when my children are upset. I’m either Mary Poppins — kind, loving, patient — or I’m completely intolerant and prone to yelling and screaming.” –Concerned Mom If you’re yelling at your kids, you’re not alone. Imagine not being able to express your anger after your boss unfairly criticizes you. What if this happened 10 x by noon? This is the life of a toddler.

A toddler’s brain is still developing. She doesn’t have the ability to describe her feelings, let alone talk herself down. Toddlers respond physically when they experience intense feelings.

❌ It doesn’t mean you’re a bad parent.
❌ It doesn’t mean they’re a bad kid.
❌ It doesn’t mean your toddler is spoiled

It means your toddler is a toddler.
Hitting is just a toddler acting his age.

WHAT TO DO?

💥PAUSE💥
Use this moment to avoid a big reaction—(which is not easy to do).

💥ACKNOWLEDGE THE FEELINGS💥
“You’re angry - I get it”

💥SET LIMITS 💥
“But it’s NOT okay to hit. Let’s move over here so you can’t hit again.”

💥TEACH 💥
Not now, but later at a calm moment, teach other ways to manage frustration - for instance, deep breathing or asking if you can play with the toy when your sister is finished. Give your child a RE-DO.

🤸‍♂️When I was in medical school, I used acronyms to remember details when I was too stressed to think straight. I recommend using the acronym E.A.S.Y. to help you tame those tantrums without losing your cool. I’ve created a FREE Tame Tantrums workshop to share this approach. LINK IN BIO.

The Expectation Gap: When Do Toddlers Have Control Over their Behaviors? - Mona Delahooke, Ph.D. - Pediatric Psychologist - California 12/17/2022

The Expectation Gap: When Do Toddlers Have Control Over their Behaviors? - Mona Delahooke, Ph.D. - Pediatric Psychologist - California One reason parents can feel so frustrated about toddler’s behavior is the “expectation gap.” Many parents assume that tots are capable — or should be capable — of doing things that their brains simply aren’t ready to do yet.

Kids are busy learning about their world and throwing food at first is a cool science experiment. It’s completely normal. But there are many other learning opportunities…so, let’s talk about how to stop it. 🍆🌶
⁣
Toddlers throw food because they’re bored, full, curious, and love the reaction they get. They are asking, “What’s going to happen when I throw this?”🥦🍏
⁣
💫 Remember, toddlers are obsessed with feeling powerful. If your little guy flings his broccoli on the floor, and you scream “No-o-o-o-o-o” and make a mad dash to clean it up, your toddler thinks, “Wow, that was awesome! Let see what happens if I throw my tomatoes. ⁣
⁣
💫 Instead, of losing it, take a deep breath and say something like, “I get it. Your tummy is full. Let’s go and find Charley.” Lift your child out of the highchair and move on. ⁣
⁣
💫 Also, from a practical point of view, smaller portions, shorter time for meals, and watch your little one for signs that he’s trying to tell you he’s full. A proactive approach will mean fewer messes. ⁣

Winter Car Seat Safety Tips from the AAP As a general rule, bulky clothing, including winter coats and snowsuits, should not be worn underneath the harness of a car seat. In a car crash, fluffy padding immediately flattens out from the force, leaving extra space under the harness. A child can then slip through the straps and be thro...

I can’t believe we’re already heading into the holiday season. If you (like me) feel exhausted at just the thought of all-the-things-to-plan-and-prepare-and-do and/or if you have children (like me) who get disregulated and overwhelmed by all the changes in routine, social interactions, activities, weather, etc. this time of year, take some time and space to decide what matters most to you and your children and think about how you can focus on those things more intentionally this season. That may involve saying ‘no’ to some invitations from family and friends, limiting some interactions, or scaling back some plans or activities, and that may feel uncomfortable. Setting boundaries often does. That’s okay. Your needs matter. Your children’s needs matter.

And when you’re having a hard day or struggling with setting limits or with self-doubt or stressing out, here are some ‘reframes’ from Kendra Wilde ✨ Parent Support] to help you reset and recenter:

I'm a terrible parent. ⤵️
I'm not a terrible parent, I'm just having a crap day. Making and repairing mistakes is part of growth.

Everyone else manages better. ⤵️
Everyone else struggles, too. We are human!

I should be doing more. ⤵️
Says who? I don't have to do everything perfectly to be a good parent. I can shorten the list. I can ask for help.

I must be doing it all wrong. ⤵️
There is no right way. We're figuring out what works for our family based on our values, resources, and needs.

As long as my kids are happy, I'm 'fine' ⤵️
My kids benefit when I take care myself. I'm allowed to do what I can to look after my own wellbeing. That translates to my kids in a powerful way.

I can't keep up. ⤵️
Life isn't a race. I can slow down. Sometimes rest is the most productive choice.
