Although we may logically know and understand that we are not to blame for the unhealed trauma of another, the child parts that live within us have not reached that level of maturity. They are still blaming themselves for not being enough. When the inner child becomes triggered, it is once again looking at its insufficient self which could cause a survival response in the adult self. The adult does not realize that it is a childhood part of them that was triggered by a memory. They automatically assume that the current environment is the problem. The adult’s reactive behavior now becomes an indelible mark upon the children they care for who will keep the original trauma, which can go back many generations, in full force. Although these ancestral traumas will show up differently in everyone they affect, they are nonetheless an old survival pattern that seems to be ongoing only because no one has done the inner work to halt its progression.
As more people rely on the ego for safety and acceptance, the longer generational trauma will exist and cause more emotional issues for humanity. Does this mean we live in an egotistical society? No; it means we live in a world that does not know how to properly heal because they have no awareness of their deeply hidden wounds. Their false selves have replaced their true selves, and they are not aware of the impact this has on their souls and society. They do not have a spiritual connection to themselves and that is why they feel a sense of separation from love. It is the love they have for themselves that is buried along with their shadow aspects.

Releasing and Grieving the False Self

When you are ready to let go of the false self, you might feel some resistance coming from the ego mind. The ego mind does not want to give up its job of protecting the whole self. The ego mind believes that without this protection, the whole self becomes vulnerable to the rejection of others because of its inferior parts. This is the illusion that must be exposed and dissolved. You have an intelligent and rational mind, intuition, and spiritual support from your Creator when you are ready to become aware of your divine truth. Most importantly, you have a heart that feels deep love for the younger versions of you that have been rejected. You closed your heart to these parts of you so you could function in life through your most vulnerable years. You are older and wiser now and you are learning that your false self does not align with your soul’s purpose. Your soul knows it did not come here to fit in. Your soul came here to experience love and the consequences of not choosing love. The moment you feared that love was lost, you began to worry about your purpose here and started relying on others to give you purpose. This has caused you to rely on your ego mind to gain a feeling of belonging and significance. This has been a deception of the mind since you were young. Now you are being asked to let this all go and step into an unknown reality. The truth is you are not stepping into the unknown. You are returning to the divine truth that you came from. You are returning to your authentic self.
