Videos by Maine MILL in Lewiston. Connecting history and generations - past, present and future
Thanks to the help of our Bates College volunteers, we’ve now inventoried and counted most of the memorial items collected with Tanja Hollander and the City of Lewiston in response to the tragic mass shooting that occurred in Lewiston on October 25. While it’s certainly stunning to see the outpouring of support, the next steps are to curate an exhibit in a new area of the museum that will allow visitors to choose whether to make viewing the memorial items part of their experience at Maine MILL or not.

Olivine Bonsaint Sirois with Accordion
This heartwarming video full of music and dance features April's Object of the Month, an accordion that belonged to Olivine Sirois. It was donated to Museum L-A by Theresa Pleau and Irene Chasse.
Olivine Sirois was a true lover of music who taught herself how to play the accordion and many other instruments. She played music throughout her life and shared that love with her children, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren.
Music has always been a large part of life in Lewiston-Auburn. Whether you were out at one of the numerous Music Halls on the streets of downtown or crowded into a family member’s kitchen, weekend nights always meant “music nights.”
Check out our website or visit Museum L-A to see the Object of the Month up close! www.museumla.org

Muscle Memory: Madeleine demonstrates shoe making
We put aside the "please don't touch" policy so that Madeleine Cloutier could show us how she used to hold these three shoe-making tools. As soon as she walked into our shoe exhibit, her hands started moving in that rhythmic sweeping pattern. Muscle memory kicked in!
Madeleine spent about 40 years working at Hallowell Shoe, a factory in the back of the old Pepperell Mill on Lisbon Street in Lewiston. When she was in her early twenties, she also spent some time working in the spinning room at the Hill Mill.
