Davidson County Fire Marshal’s Office is pleased to announce that Fire Marshal K-9 Boone has officially joined his new family here in Davidson County Government. Boone is an American Field Lab trained in ignitable liquid detection and, with his unique training, will assist the Davidson County Fire Marshal’s Office and the Davidson County Fire Investigation Task Force in investigating the origin and cause of fires occurring in our county. Boone began life at Blast Wingshooting Kennels in Aniwa, Wisconsin, and is the offspring of a Fox Red American Field Lab named Cowboy. From there, Boone left Wisconsin and joined Reliant Investigation INC.. to begin his training in accelerant detection. During his training, Reliant found that Boone stood out as one of the top K-9s ever trained by their organization. After several months of training and conditioning, Boone came to Davidson County on Monday, February 26, joining Deputy Fire Marshals John Webster and Eric Barker to start K-9 handler training. After several days of training, John and Eric were tested on their skills, knowledge, and abilities by CADA (Canine Accelerant Detection Association) passing with flying colors.
The Davidson County Fire Marshal’s Office would like to thank the Davidson County Board of Commissioners, Davidson County Manager’s Office, Davidson County Attorney’s Offices, Davidson County Human Resources Office, Davidson County Emergency Services, Davidson County District Attorney’s Office, Davidson County Sheriff’s Department, Davidson County Fire Departments, Davidson County Fire Investigation Task Force, Central NC Fire Investigation Task Force, City of Lexington Fire Department, City of Thomasville Fire Department, Union County Fire Marshal’s Office and any others for their support and assistance making Boones journey to Davidson County possible.

Yeah, we know -- summer in NC is always hot. But even so, every week, dozens of people across NC seek medical help for heat illnesses. Heat can be deadly. Heat indices will be near or over 100 degrees F during much of this long holiday weekend. Be smart and stay safe in the heat by staying in shaded, well-ventilated areas as much as possible.
Whether you’re off-roading or simply working outdoors with mechanical equipment, take every precaution to prevent sparking a wildfire.
👉 Be sure chains and other metal parts aren’t dragging. They throw sparks.
👉 Check your tire pressure.
👉 Don’t drive through or park on dry grass or brush.
👉 Regularly check vehicles and equipment. Keep the exhaust system, spark arresters and engine in proper working order and free of carbon buildup.
