This day started out not so hot and I reminded myself, “well you can’t fall off the floor, Amanda ”.
But then it got worse.
And then it got worse, again.
I will not wallow too long in this grief.
Vote for progress, vote for her legacy this November.

I told the boys over dinner tonight that everyone is so hell bent to get back to normal. Most days I feel that very same way. But on nights like tonight, I’m grateful for this time of no running to games and practices, backyard campfires, s’mores, bike rides, walks, book reading and some one room school house type learning. A year from now we will be running ourselves to death again and reminiscing about spring 2020 when we lived X number of weeks In quarantine doing what we pleased as a family.

I survived Day 1 of @ Midway University

Timeline photos 12/03/2019

So hey friends, things are changing!
For the past 6.5 years I have been doing my career development thing in the UK College of Agriculture, Food and Environment. I also started my own coaching and consulting gig. It became the best of times and the busiest of times 😂. Not to mention the soccer, football, basketball, lacrosse, piano, and baseball Mom hats that I wear. How does one do all of that?

I have no idea... still trying to figure that one out for myself.

Starting January 2nd, I’ll be hanging with a new crowd at Midway University serving as the Associate Dean of Student Success.

I have lots of good stories to tell about my own job search and lessons learned along the way. Stay tuned for what’s next!

I am saying lots of prayers of thanks today, for all that I have had and for all that’s to come.

Celebrating with this guy. One of the best decisions Shubin and I ever made was to go rescue some muts down in Gainesville, Florida. I‘d like to think Lucky and Sampson helped us become better parents later to our kiddos.
I’d be lying ... 😂

I stole this from today. I can’t tell you how much this resonates with me.
•••
If you are an inventory ju**ie or like to take personality assessments it might not surprise you to hear that I’m an ENTJ (Myers Briggs) and a strong, strong DI (DISC). My top 5 strengths are Maximizer, WOO, Activator, Communicator, and Individualization (CliftonStrengths). This year, I have tried to embrace these gifts instead of apologizing for them.
•••
On my work team, I am a square peg trying to fit in a round hole. My direct style is often perceived as too assertive, too vocal. I have no filter, I am often too loud, and I will always say what no one else will. I can’t play poker, I always try to make a funny out of awkward situations and I am deeply focused on the individual needs of each student, each client, or each co-worker. I often respond with “it depends”. I always look at how things could be better and spend too little time celebrating wins. I want to innovate and make things bigger, better. I love to be creative and don’t spend near enough time doing that. Although I’m not sure how useful it is, my greatest gift is the ability and desire to make people laugh.
•••
This can often feel like a very lonely existence. I work with very few people on a daily basis that share any of these traits, styles, or preferences. I often feel like I don’t fit.
•••
A conversation with a good friend today reminded me that progress is not made through silence. Loudness doesn’t always mean aggression and sometimes completely uncomfortable conversations are necessary to do good work and move things from good to great. If the quote above is true, I would consider the last 6 years of my life a win, although the price has been a lot to bear.
•••
Some advice- quit apologizing. Take your gifts and use them on the balcony and quit dwelling in your basement.

What are your Books of Summer?
I’m working on ’s Gifts of Imperfection and “Where the Crawdads Sing” on audible.

I just started listening to Audible Books last year and my most favorite listen-to book is without a doubt “Born A Crime” by . His voice is as beautiful as you can imagine as he reads his stories aloud. What an incredible autobiography. It’ll make you laugh and cry all at once!

Our Lucky girl is gone, just like that.
18 years old and about 14 years with Shubin and I. We rescued Lucky from the in Gainesville about 3 months before we married. She was the absolute best dog. I imagine she is chasing squirrels again.

Timeline photos 04/24/2019

Our Lucky girl is slowing down these days. This July we believe she will be about 17 years old. We rescued her from a shelter in Gainesville, Florida. She spends very little time up on her feet and sleeps through the day. She has weathered so many storms with us and watched the annoying “new kids” bug the crap out of her. Dez has turned into a pretty good caretaker for her as a 6 year old. He tries to make her comfortable and tells her good morning and goodnight with lots of pats and gentle hugs. My wish is that one day I will wake up and she will be gone, simply lulled into an endless sleep. I know we probably won’t be that fortunate. 😞

Happy Birthday to the little boy who made me a Mother!
❤️
Before you go to sleep
Say a little prayer
Every day in every way, it's getting better and better
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
Beautiful boy
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
Beautiful boy
Out on the ocean sailing away
I can hardly wait
To see you come of age
But I guess we'll both just have to be patient
'Cause it's a long way to go
A hard row to hoe
Yes, it's a long way to go
But in the meantime
Before you cross the street
Take my hand
Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
Beautiful boy
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful
Beautiful boy
❤️
