We have dutifully shamed them and remained hyper vigilant in our paranoid dogma for over two years. Not even science could stop us. We may be vastly outnumbered. But there’s still no better way to reduce by 1% the transmission of a non-deadly disease with a 0.0008% prevalence. Make sure everyone knows you won’t give up that easily. We can take your freedom, but they can never take our masks!

Aloha Kauai, it's TikTok Mayor of the year, Derek Karenkwami. Recently, I upset a group of about 6 cranky "local" haole ladies and people from Portland with comments I made commending Saudia Arabian dress codes that they felt were racist. I think this falls under the umbrella of misunderstandings. But I totally get it. I too once thought Saudi Arabia was a race. It's actually this amazing brutal dictatorship where nobody can question the leadership and even dressing how you want or expressing yourself are emergencies in and of themselves. I was actually commending the all male regime for being so exemplary in entirely masking the women. We could take a lot of pointers from their success. A covered face is the most beautiful face. After all, it's just a minor inconvenience and in times like this we must protect the most vulnerable among us--men who can't control themselves around women. That being said, I recognize that even a misunderstanding that hurts people from Portland is a reason to pause and reflect. That's why I am self-imposing a 2 week suspension on myself to go surfing and foiling with Zuck. It worked very well when Chief of Police Todd Rayburn was caught making fun of Asian people and I think it's just what the doctor ordered for me. I will still be making frequent social media posts, but I just won't be pretending to work inside the cage around my office. Mahalo. I personally think mandates should be mandated. We can sacrifice for a little while, forever. After all, it’s a minor inconvenience to cover your faces and smiles and breathe through a bacteria trap for years on end...for forever. Saudi Arabian women have gladly done it by choice for centuries. Remember when I had the National guard arrest all the people on the beaches. That’s a minor inconvenience. Therefore, my hands are tied and I am nullifying the 432nd addendum to Emergency Rule 17,661....for now at least. It's a huge bummer. I still advise remaining distant, socially and emotionally, from those who would otherwise care about you. I will remain steadfast in my effort to find a new emergency to justify re-revoking this unnecessary privilege.

Aloha Kauai, I never could imagined how much fun it would be to lockdown an island, install military checkpoints, raid beaches, and become a social media star for doing so. We followed the science all the way to Karening each other over ineffective cloths masks. I have no idea who decided that local mayors could unilaterally legislate and command the armed forces....but I am just so stoked on that still. Here's to 4 more years of arbitrary rules and iron fists.
