A batch of 4 double wall hooks for a customer.
Just a simple project, but still enjoyable to make!
All done with the forging and fabrication. Now it just needs the 5/16” cup interior holes drilled for candles, some rough spots smoothed and shaped, forge-blackened, and shined up!
🇮🇱
Getting the scroll for the base forged. The pictures of it bursting into flames in the oil quench were not really necessary, just mostly for fun 😁
Making a simple iron menorah for a lady local here in Lima. Stay tuned for more pics of this project!
Got to do another arrow today. It has been a while! Felt great to make one again. This was a fully functional, 24” youth sized arrow with a 5/16” oiled oak shaft and a hand forged and sharpened iron arrowhead. Thanks to the Lord Jesus, and to my customers and supporters! Each one of these special pieces I get to do is a privilege and joy, and I hope just as much to the recipients and viewers as it is to me! May God bless you all.
A few hand-forged and fabricated presents for family members this Christmas.
Set of 6 long handled camp spoons I made yesterday. These are about 10 1/2 inches long each, and can be used for both cooking and eating. I designed them to be able to store easily in a backpack or drawer, and use in the camp or the kitchen for any purpose.
All done with this new bell order! It’s one of my typical 1 piece hanger copper dinner bells, but the customer requested a hook to go with it, that will hold it out away from the wall, as I believe they plan to use it as a dinner bell. I used 1/4” round steel for the hook, hammered together with a piece of flat stock for the wall mount. All processes for making both the bell and the hook were done using hand tools, anvil, and forge fire, no power tools used.
Finishing up some orders before Christmas arrives.
Hand-carved solid oak chain links from a single log. Available just in time for the holiday season, on Etsy.com, shop JRCrafting1
6 spoons for 5 different orders. The two large ones go together.
Four of the orders are here in the U.S., one goes to the U.K.
I’m so glad to have the opportunity to make these spoons for people worldwide!
A couple of custom designed spoons, based off a serving spoon that I stock in my Etsy shop. These were made with straight handles instead of having a hanging hook, and slightly smaller heads to accommodate both serving and eating purposes. The total length of these is about 12”. Hot brushed and quenched in vegetable oil for food safety. All made by hand with no power tools.
In case anyone wondered, I have nothing against power tools, and find the need to use them quite often. However, I find a certain kind of thrill and fascination in using traditional methods to make something of quality that works and is usable, and so I do so whenever possible.
3 spoons down, 3 to go!
The others are to be different designs.
The miniature arrowheads are meant for 3 arrows about 16” long total with white feathers that will be put on placks either as awards or gifts, I believe it was said.
Good morning to all!
It’s a beautiful new day to forge some iron! It can stay nice like this all winter, if I have any say in the matter. 😄
We have a rather extensive list of small orders, so I will be working in the forge quite a bit in the next several days. Going to try to finish up as much as I can today. Well, with that being said, I’m putting the phone down, and getting to work!
The paper towel holder and spoon are all done! These items, along with several other different hand-forged items, are available in my shop on Etsy, JRCrafting1. You can also visit ruttermetalworks.com to see more pictures of projects, get info, or place special orders.
Thanks to my followers here on Instagram for your support of my small shop. I appreciate it!
Good morning, Lima OH, and everyone else, from J. R. Crafting! We are back at it this morning in the forge, getting caught up. A long-handled straight spoon, clover leaf accent paper towel holder, and a special customized arrow with unique stamped metal cards, that will be given by a NC customer as a pastoral gift. I will get to work, and try to post progress of these projects later on! May God bless your morning!
All done!
11” long, head roughly 2”x2”, hangs well, and feels great in the hand. That’s a good place to stop before I possibly mess something up. 😄
Hope this one gives the customer great use, and lasts them a lifetime!!
Drawing out a serving spoon with a small hanging hook on the end of the handle.
A long, straight handled camp or kitchen spoon. This spoon is designed to be large enough to scoop from a hot pan, but small enough to eat with as well. Available for sale on Etsy.com shop name JRCrafting1. Stock spoons are $35 each, custom prices vary.
All done with the stubby arrow! It’s slightly over 9” long. This is the shortest arrow I’ve ever sold.
Hand-forged steel tip, solid 3/8” oak shaft, and pheasant feather fletching.
Headed to Virginia!
Morning, all! Today I’m making this spoon to ship to a customer in Saudi Arabia, and also the shortest arrow I ever have sold yet, measuring only 9 inches! I plan to put pics of that when finished.
Cooking up another anniversary spoon!!
This one will have a small head and a long-handle with twists.

Morning all,
What you are seeing is a bad habit of mine. Multiple unfinished projects at a time. I can hear voices of direction from the past telling me “Jonny, finish what you start before starting a new project.”
I’m trying to make this a day that finishes up several of these half-way done items, so I can have a few additions for the fall festival in Ada tomorrow.
If you haven’t heard about it, and are interested in going, it is the Ada Harvest and Herb Festival on Main Street in Ada, OH tomorrow starting at 9. There will be about 170 vendors there, selling food, crafts, mums, and more! I am planning on being out there as one of them, doing a live blacksmithing demo with my forge and tools. If you’re looking for something local to do tomorrow, come check it out!
Evening project, hammering out a small copper bell shell.
