Day 3 of World Breastfeeding Week and we are talking about milk supply. Many parents worry, or at least wonder if their baby is getting enough milk. As a #lactationspecialist and #postpartumdoula I ask questions that help parents analyze the overall #breastfeedingdyad. 🟣 How often are you feeding baby? 🟣 Is the latch comfortable and can you see and hear baby swallowing milk? 🟣 If your an exclusive pumper, how do your flanges fit? Have you had them checked for proper fit? 🟣 Do your breasts feel softer after a feed/expression? 🟣 Is baby content and relaxed after a feeding? It’s important to remember that milk supply is based on how much milk you remove from the breast. 🟡 Waiting to long between feedings/expressions can effect supply in the long run. 🟡 Supplements or #galactagogues alone will not save a low supply. 🟡 If baby is not transferring milk effectively due to a mechanical issue; such as latch or position that can in turn effect supply.
