Just sitting here, waiting for the day that the business minded-motivated-working-music professionals of Arkansas come together to work.
An record, video Filmed by Live Mays, clothing by Charlo (Dope Runna), mixed by Ferocious, promoted by D Dirt, shared by every top artist in the state, Power 92s DJs giving mention on their platform, SJ developing venue options in and out of the state, small tour to promote the record, The local restaurants and small businesses that everyone supports returning the favor and sponsoring, Star Jackson Facilitating and managing, yeah there are a lot of missing steps in there ....but you get it...right?
🗣When are y’all gonna do this? Because THIS is how an entire state works together in unity for a legitimate movement towards one goal that shines the spotlight on the whole state.
Who got the vision?
........The PRODUCER
I actually disagree with this statement. If there is a business that is doing exceptional work, and uplifting a specific genre or work or music in a region/state.... then we do owe it to that business to support.
What happens when one person/business/entity/artist/producer puts a spotlight on a region? Then those who are looking to fund in that genre, pay attention. If Charlo's brand goes national/international and he is representing Arkansas the way he does.....we will all win from his work. Those who matter in funding will be more aware of the talents that Arkansas has and it will start a ripple effect.
So, the moral to this is we do owe business who are working so hard a little support! Stand in support, do not stand to shade other businesses or artists. Support your peers, because the ripple may bring you in also.
More education regarding ISRC Codes.
How to get an ISRC code?
For ISRC numbers, indie artists have a couple of options.
Option 1- Choose a digital distributor that will automatically embed ISRC numbers to the digital recordings it distributes for you.
Examples of digital distributors include Distrokid (my favorite!), CD Baby, TuneCore to name but a few.
This is most suitable for indie artists who are looking to digitally release their albums on streaming platforms like Spotify, Pandora, Google Play, etc.
Option 2- Request a batch of ISRC numbers from your local ISRC Agency and embed those ISRC codes in your digital files.
This is interesting for indie musicians who are planning a physical release and music producers who are pursuing sync licensing opportunities where it is common to cut multiple versions of a single composition (remember: 1 recording = 1 ISRC number, 5 recordings = 5 ISRC numbers, even if it’s the same song/composition/musical work)

ISWC vs ISRC, What’s the Difference?
ISWC stands for International Standard Musical Work Code. It identifies a composition.
1 ISWC number = 1 Composition
ISRC stands for International Standard Recording Code. It identifies a sound recording.
1 ISRC number = 1 Sound Recording
1 Composition can be related to multiple ISRC numbers if there are multiple Sound Recordings of that 1 Composition.
*Do you need an ISWC number or ISRC code or both?
Both.
In theory, both the ISWC and ISRC numbers are meant to help Performance Right Organizations (PROs) and music distributors respectively identify when your compositions and sound recordings are played.
IF it worked 100% of the time, you’d get paid properly every time one of your composition or sound recording is played.
In practice, the music industry is a little bit broken in places and revenue leaks continue to happen.
If you are serious about your music business, you will have a full understanding of coding. If you would like a copy of the ISRC Handbook, I can provide it to you for free. Drop your email in the comments.

Music Copyright 101: A little about copyrights in 2019-2020!
If you would like to have a step by step guide, contact me today! $20 Gets you the step by step formula for copyrighting your songs. Empower your team with this information! Or you can pay Starr Productions to do this for you for $75.
As an independent musician, you own your songs and recordings. It’s YOUR intellectual property.
That might seem obvious, but it’s worth repeating: YOU control the copyright to the songs you write and the recordings you create. Ownership of your music copyright gives you leverage, protection, and power when it comes to making money from your music catalog.
Let me give you an overview of what music copyright is, how to register your copyright, and how you can use your copyright as a songwriter or artist to earn money.
*What is copyright?
Copyright signifies the ownership of intellectual property by a person or group.
Music copyright also grants certain exclusive rights to the owner(s), one of the most important being the right to earn money from that intellectual property. This is called “exploiting” your copyright. We’ll get into that more later.
Music copyright designates the ownership of a particular song or recording.
If you create a recording yourself, or if you pay for studio time and session fees, you own that sound recording. If you work with a label, there’s a good chance the label controls the copyright to the recording — at least for some set duration.
If you wrote a song by yourself, you alone own that composition. If you wrote a song with one or more people, you each own a portion of that song. You and your collaborators would then want to draft a document determining the splits (the percentage of the song each person owns), and register your copyright accordingly.
There are two types of copyright for music:
The composition — which is the music and lyrics
The sound recording — which is a particular recorded version of that music and lyrics
Compositions are usually owned by songwriters and/or publishers. Sound recordings are usually owned by artists or labels.
*When do you own your copyright?
In the strictest technical terms, you own your musical copyright the moment you capture the composition or recording in a fixed medium. This could be something as simple as writing the melody or lyrics on a piece of paper or humming it into a recorder.
*Does the “poor man’s music copyright” actually count as proof?
The “poor man’s copyright” is a common but ill-advised method for proving copyright. This is where a musician sends a copy of the composition or recording to themselves via certified mail, leaving the package sealed with the date clearly marked on the outside.
The idea is that you let the government do the work of dating the creation of the work with the federal postmark. However, the poor man’s copyright does not afford you nearly the same protections as an official copyright registration.
With the poor man’s copyright, you still own your copyright, but you have not actually registered it.
*Why would I want to register my copyright?
At this point you might be asking yourself “If I own my copyright, why should I register my work?”
The major reason is that in the event someone infringes on your copyright either by recording a song you wrote or using a sound recording you own without your permission, you will have a lot more leverage if you’ve officially filed your copyright registration with the government. In the USA, you’d want to register your copyright with the US Copyright Office, part of the Library of Congress.
A registered work will carry a lot more weight in court than a sealed package, a Souncloud link, or beer-soaked napkin. And if you decide to sue for copyright infringement, a federal registration entitles you to financial compensation from the offending party and attorney fees. It’s simply the best proof of ownership available.

When dropping a new project, there are MANY things that need to happen BEFORE the release of the actual works. I don't care if your single is done...if you have not checked off this list.... YOU ARE NOT READY!!!!!!!!
You need to first consider the strategy behind the release of your single:
*How are you going to attract listeners, encourage streams, and drive downloads?
*How is the launch of this single going to enhance your relationship with your audience?
*How will this song help you get to the next level in your music career?
*How does a single help you tell a little bit more of your artist story?
*How do you position your single to capitalize on streaming tools and algorithmic traction?
WHILE you are working on the project, here are the things that you need to be accomplishing:
1. Choose the RIGHT song as a single. Have a listening session and get several opinions. Ensure that you have considered the market that is currently listening and purchasing your work!
2. Set a Release date and Schedule Distribution. Give yourself TIME! Even if your single is completely done today....if you have not checked off this list.... YOU ARE NOT READY!
3. Register your works!!!! Once you’ve scheduled your distribution–if you haven’t already done so–you’re going to want to register your song with your performance rights organization aka PRO (ASCAP, BMI, or SESAC), as well as with the US Copyright Office, as well as with SoundExchange who pays the artists when songs are played on digital mediums. Additionally, if you’re really confident about how amazingly great your record is and you expect–or at least, hope–to earn a respectable number of digital sales, you should consider setting yourself up to be eligible to earn a placement on one or more Billboard charts. To be eligible, you should both register the ISRC of your song and register the title with Nielsen SoundScan. And lastly, if you’re super confident in your great song, you should get with me so I can show you how to get your song certified as a Gold or Platinum selling single by the RIAA as well as how to be eligible to win a GRAMMY Award.
4. SET GOALS! Reasonable Goals! - Financial Goals, administrative goals, marketing and promotional goals, support system goals, fan base goals.
5. Marketing and Promotional Planning - Anticipation promo is very important! A marketing strategy will tell you who you need to promote your product too! Determine which platform will be the best to promote your works. There is more out there than just facebook yall. Did you know that Youtube is the second largest search engine?! If you don't have a youtube, then what are you even doing?!
6. Start scheduling gigs to correspond with your release. Step out of central Arkansas and consider the entire state. If you already do that, step out of Arkansas and consider your region! Be diligent and mindful of your statistics. Keep your administrative work updated! Who came, who purchased, Who followed from what gig.....etc.
7. Merch - Determine if / what your budget will allow. The merch does not necessarily have to be associated with this project. It can be a T shirt with your face, or a bandanna with your logo...etc. Merch give away is very effective.
If you need help, inbox me today! $75 Consultation fee is required up front! Let's get you where you need to be!

PROTECT YOUR SH*T! How to copyright your music!
The process of copyrighting your music is easier than you might imagine and has its advantages in protecting the music you've created. For example, a copyright is a public record that proves your ownership of the music. With copyright, if someone uses your music without paying or crediting you, you can sue for compensation and lawyers' fees. And registered copyright gives you the right to register your work with U.S. Customs to avoid having illegal copies of your work imported into the United States.
How Do Copyrights, Patents, and Trademarks Differ?
It's worth noting that copyrighting your music is only one step in protecting your work. For instance, registering your works with a PRO (performance rights organization) is also important. You also need to know that copyrighting your music isn't the same as getting a patent or a trademark.
In the United States, copyright protects "original works of authorship," including musical, literary, and artistic creations such as songs and albums. A patent, meanwhile, protects inventions. If you invented a new form of musical instrument, for example, you might consider getting a patent for it, but a song doesn't qualify. And a trademark is a recognizable symbol, word or words, such as a brand name, but again, music isn't covered.
Patent and trademark aren't interchangeable with copyright—they're three different legal concepts. To protect your music, you should copyright it.
How to Copyright Your Music
Copyrighting your music isn't hard or expensive. It's simply a matter of filling out some paperwork, either digitally or on paper, and submitting your claim. Note that the process described here applies to U.S. copyrights; the process differs in other countries.
Follow these five steps to protect your songs and music by copyright in the U.S.:
Gather the information you'll need to complete the registration process. You can copyright entire albums or individual songs, but note that the price is the same for each. In other words, it costs you the same to copyright an entire 14-track album and all the works contained on that album as it does to copyright one single from the album. Go for bulk when you can to keep the price down. You'll need the album/song titles handy to complete the process.
Navigate to the U.S. Copyright Office website and decide if you're going to complete the registration online using the eCo System or if you want to download and print the forms to mail to the Copyright Office (use Form SR). Using the online system is quicker and cheaper, although in either case, the processing time can stretch over many months. Check the Copyright Office website for current pricing.
Complete the registration forms. Whether you are using the online system or the paper forms, you'll find complete instructions on the form to walk you through the process.
Here is some terminology you will need to know:
Type of Copyright: Sound Recording
Title of Work: Name of Your Album or Song
Contents Title: If you're registering a multi-track recording, each song should be listed as a separate Contents Title
Use the Limitations of Claim part of the form if your album contains any cover songs. The form will allow you to exclude the music, the lyrics or both the music and lyrics. Be sure to do this for any song on your album for which you do not have rights to full and clear copyright.
Submit your completed forms. Using the online system, once you submit your forms, you will receive a receipt that acts as proof of your copyright application. If you're using paper forms, you will mail the completed forms with your CDs to the office on the application. Note that processing can take six months or more, but if you keep your receipt from submitting your form or proof of mailing the forms (such as a certified mail slip or FedEx receipt), then you will have proof of the date you registered your copyright.
