It’s college fair season!! 📚 Have you attended any fairs lately? How have you prepared? They can be both overwhelming and eye-opening. Make sure to check out your nearest college fair and talk to as many college representatives as possible.

The UC PIQ statements are very different from other college application personal essays. There are 8 personal insight questions and you must choose 4 to write on. Each response is limited to a 350 word maximum. So how do you get your points across efficiently? How do you structure the essay?

Carissa Dagenais is a registered drama therapist with an MA in Drama Therapy from New York University and a BA from Smith College. Over the last ten years she has worked in multiple therapeutic settings including: schools, hospitals, outpatient clinics, respite houses, and summer camps. Carissa specializes in trauma-informed care for adolescents and adults and has extensive experience working with elementary aged students and their families. She currently works as a therapeutic group facilitator for Charlie Health, an online intensive outpatient program for teens and young adults. Carissa is also a certified community health worker in the state of MA.

🧑‍🏫 Our Writing Tutor: Hannah Byland, PhD

Hannah Byland has a Ph.D. from Cornell University, where she also taught freshman writing seminars. After Cornell, Dr. Byland taught critical writing and tutored graduate students in writing at the University of Pennsylvania. She specializes in helping students with learning differences like ADHD and perfectionism. She can also help with things like essay planning, grammar, citation styles, and developing lines of reasoning.

👨‍🏫 Meet Our Team:

Math and Physics Tutor - Neill R***r, PhD

Neill has a PhD in Physics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where he also earned his Bachelor of Science. His primary expertise lies in mathematics and physics at both the high school and university levels. Since 2010, he has been tutoring students of all ages and skill level, including working as a peer tutor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute from 2010-2011 and teaching local middle school students as part of a program called “Tutor Time.” During his graduate school years, Neill also worked as a teaching assistant and supervised laboratory sessions for physics courses 1 and 2. After completing his graduate studies and a 2019 postgraduate position at Sun Yat-Sen University in Guangzhou, China, Neill taught AP Physics and AP Calculus at an international school in China. All of these different teaching experiences across different age groups and school systems in the U.S. and Asia have sparked a lifelong passion for teaching which continues to this day.
