We’re adding to our Share Your Strength series with Alex Romo (@alexromogolf). Read how working with his trainer Harold has unlocked a new passion: My trainer, Harold, and I have created a well rounded golf program including push, pull, hinge, and squat movements twice a week. These movements increase power, explosiveness, strength and stability in a golf swing. Flexibility is key for golfers, so we do a mobility warm up before my lifts and stretch afterwards. We also do different medicine ball slam variations to increase power and speed in my swing. Sometimes we use resistance bands to throw off my stability during compound lifts like squats and bench. Golf is a one sided game which can lead to imbalances within the body. Strength training allows us to focus and attack those imbalances with unilateral movements like single-arm pressing and pulling, as well as single-legged lower body movements. Many 24 Hour Fitness locations have private rooms for personal training as well, which makes it easier to work efficiently with your trainer. I’m excited to announce that I’ll be competing in my first ever men’s physique show this fall and I look forward to showing golfers it’s possible to maintain flexibility and play at a high level while also lifting weights consistently.
