Jaxon has been a patient at Aveanna since October of 2022 after a car accident required him to undergo a tracheostomy. Recently, several members of Jaxon's Aveanna care team visited him in the hospital after he had his trach removed!

During the month of May, Aveanna observes Pediatric Feeding Disorder Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about Pediatric Feeding Disorders (PFD) and how they impact children across the globe.

Happy Mother's Day from Nurse Mitzi and her son, Malik!

Malik was born in 1998 and when he was six months old, Mitzi was asked to foster him. She was told he would not live to be 10 months old. She later adopted him, and now he is 26 years old. Mitzi currently works as a LPN with Aveanna, and she is a CNA for Malik.

"Working with Aveanna gives me the freedom to make my own schedule so that I can take him to doctor appointments and be there for him to see every smile," said Mitzi. "Working as his CNA gives me time with him, which is something money cannot buy since we never know how long he will be with us. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I was meant to be his mother, and I am so grateful for that."

Happy Mother's Day to all mothers and mother figures who exemplify strength and perseverance no matter what.

Nurse Samantha and her son, Alex, have not had the easiest health journey, but their bond is the testament to the devotion of mother and son.

After Nurse Samantha gave birth to Alex as a teenager, she was inspired by the nurses at the NICU to become a nurse herself. She began working as a LPN at 18. After years of testing, Alex was diagnosed with Mucopolysaccharidosis type IIIB or Sanfilippo Syndrome, a degenerative disease that causes children to lose abilities of speech, mobility, and eating, among other things.

Around 2014, Alex started receiving care from Aveanna.
In 2019, Alex suffered a traumatic brain injury as a result of a respiratory illness and cardiac arrests. One of his full-time, long-term nurses was there and resuscitated him. The event left Alex requiring 24/7 care.

"This change in Alex's care brought me to Aveanna as a nurse myself," said Samantha. "This not only filled the care he needed but allowed me to spend more time with him, meet his needs, and be more present in his care. I am so thankful that I went into nursing and for the wonderful staff at Aveanna who really take my son's needs seriously. They are always there to help whenever I need them."

I want to take this time to wish all of our nurses, and all nurses everywhere, a Happy National Nurses Week! At Aveanna, the care you provide and the relationships you have with our patients and their families is the thread which allows them to stay in their homes as long as possible and living their lives to the fullest extent possible.

These last few years have been hard on all professions, but especially on nurses. In spite of these unprecedented challenges, we have persevered and continued to provide extraordinary care to the patients we are privileged to serve. Nurses remain resilient and adaptive. It is these skills that have allowed and continue to allow us to prevail both now and in the future.
