When we were kids, we thought the insulation in our walls was cotton candy.
Thankfully our parents told us not to take a bite!
Many of us have never given it a second thought since. But if you are a homeowner, it could be worth your while…
So let's pack our brains tight with some insulation information.
Obviously, insulation is what keeps the heat trapped inside our homes.
We measure the effectiveness of insulation with something called “R-value”. The higher the value, the more resistant it is to heat – and the more insulated your house will be.
An improperly insulated home can cost you greatly in energy bills…
So make sure that when you are insulating your home, you get the good stuff – and dont forget to pack it tight!
Considering having some landscaping done?
It seems simple – but there is a lot of thought and energy that goes into the process… like any good thing!
Before we even begin digging, it is first necessary to go through these 5 steps:
-Analysis of the site
-Determining your needs
-Drawing a diagram
-Deciding upon a conceptual design
-Creating a detailed, finalized design plan
Your yard is your sanctuary, so it deserves the utmost attention to detail.
We understand that you cannot achieve pinnacle yard vibes without putting in a whole lot of love.
And we love what we do.
So give us a call, and we’ll be happy to give your yard the lift it needs!
Before glass was invented, windows were commonly made with flattened pieces of animal horn.

From clay tiles, to thatch, to shingles – the evolution of the roof is a fascinating subject.
Owing to our choice for materials, homeowners today don’t suffer as many leaky roofs as our medieval counterparts, but that doesn’t mean they don’t happen at all…
If you’re noticing a little drip where it doesn’t belong, don’t hesitate to let us know – we’ll be there on the double to plug that leak!
How does a stain like that even get on the ceiling?
No, no, it wasn't a wild party with your eccentric neighbors – it was a water stain!
Regardless, it's not very pleasing to the eye.
But don't reach for that bucket of paint – there is still hope for a quick fix!
Mix up some water and bleach, 1 part bleach for every 10 parts water, and spray the mixture on the stain.
Wait 2 days, and see what happens…
Happy spraying! :)
Fixing your toilet really stinks.
Especially when you go to start the job and you realize that the shut-off valve won't shut off!
But there is no need to spring a leak – it's an easy fix you can do yourself:
-First, turn off your main water valve
-Second, remove the packing nut
-Third, unscrew the stem. Remember to hold on to this! Because…
-Fourth, take the stem to a hardware store to find a suitable replacement washer
-Finally, clean any dirt or grit out of the inside of the valve and put on the new washer
Et voila! Your shutoff valve should be working as good as new :)
What type of shingles should I put on my roof?
The fate of your roof lies in the answer.
Commonly, there are two different types of asphalt shingles to choose from:
1) Organic, made from recycled felt paper soaked in asphalt
2) Fiberglass, which is more commonly used due to being cheaper and more durable
You can also choose between two design styles:
1) Dimensional shingles, which are more costly but last longer
2) 3-tab, which are more affordable
Having a roof over your head is one of our basic needs – so choose wisely!
If you have any questions about shingling, or what roofing you may need, give us a call and we’ll be happy to give you the advice you're looking for!
Preference for the patio, anyone? 🍹
I’m trying to insulate the house asbestos I can!
Ok… Sorry about that.
You’ve heard of asbestos, the carcinogenic material commonly used as insulation – at least until they discovered its adverse effects in the 1970s [x over eyes emoji]
Thankfully, it was phased out and we’ve switched to a much safer option – fiberglass.
But, before that, what were people using to insulate their homes?
Both the ancient Egyptians and the Vikings used to stuff mud bricks in their walls to trap in the heat.
In the middle ages, many houses used a mixture of mud and straw – they had leveled up in the insulation game.
But, interestingly enough, it was the ancient Greeks who first started using a more modern form of insulation, the infamous asbestos.
Asbestos actually translates to “inextinguishable” – they were fascinated by its resistance to fire.
So before you start making mud bricks for your house, consider buying some batts of fiberglass insulation – and keep your family warm and safe through the winter months!
We’ve sprung a leak!
Did you know that inefficient and leaky doors, windows and skylights make up more than 25% of the average household's energy costs? Ouch…
Fortunately, just by upgrading your windows with airtight frames, double-pane insulated glass and heat-resistant coatings, you can cut your energy costs by up to 15% [mind blown emoji]
So are you blowing your money into the wind?
Give us a call and we’ll get your home sealed tight!
Out of all of the modern construction tools, we think the shovel is the most groundbreaking…
That's why we chose to be landscapers!
We don’t recommend this at home, kids…
How much money can I save by installing insulation in my home?
The answer, while not so simple, shouldn’t come as a surprise.
When you consider the fact that a poorly insulated home will lose lots of heat – you start to see the bigger picture.
Less insulative power = more energy spent heating your home = more money down the drain.
Better insulation = less money on energy.
Pro tip, especially if you live in an igloo.
Got an unsightly hole in your ceiling?
Here’s a little trick to kill two birds with one stone –
Instead of hiring someone to fill the hole – which can be costly – simply cover it up.
But with what, you may ask?
With an item essential to every home – a smoke detector!
Because who said home decoration couldn't come with a function?
Hold up – did someone say patio slabs are so 1970s?
We are proud to offer the finest Interlock patios around!
But we couldn't do it without our dedicated team of tradespeople, and, of course, our clients within our community.
Thank you so much for trusting us to make your backyard beautiful!
Bet you’d never learn about the history of carpets – get ready for this:
The oldest surviving carpet was excavated in 1949 from a Pazyryk burial mound in the Altai Mountains in Siberia. It dates back all the way to the 4th or 5th century BC!
There are many different types of traditional carpets, with countries like Afghanistan, China, India, Pakistan, Turkey, Spain, England, and more all having their own unique styles.
And while most of us don't have extravagant carpets in our homes, we can all still appreciate the feeling of a nice carpet on our feet [feet emoji]
So if you’re in need of a new carpet, look no further! Give us a call and we will sort out your carpet caper!
A driveway is like a pair of shoes – you often forget about them, but everyone takes a look!

Some things just aren’t meant to wobble around.
For example, something you (hopefully) use every day, but never think about:
Your showerhead.
If you have a wobbly showerhead, or even some wobbly pipes – here a tip for you:
The secret to success is expanding foam.
Tape up the area surrounding where the pipe enters the wall to protect it from the foam. Then, simply spray the foam into the empty space between the pipe and the wall, and watch it work its magic!
That's it – your family and friends will see you as the most handy person around, and you barely had to lift a finger!
We won't tell them how easy it was, promise ;)
Home repair can be a hassle.
There are so many things to maintain, from the floors, to the doors, from windows, to the walls, the list goes on and on…
You may be inclined to attempt some of these repairs on your own, and that's a great idea!
However, some things are best left to the professionals.
If you’ve got a repair that needs to be made in your home, feel free to drop us a question in the comments below and we’ll be happy to let you know if and how you can do it, or if you’re better off reaching out for help :)
As a kid, didn’t you used to love sliding around on wooden floors in your socks? 🧦
But…it was also super fun to rub your feet on the carpet and give an unexpected victim a little static shock ⚡
You tell us – what’s better: carpets or floors?
Here’s a fun one…
Do you think there are more bricks in the world or more stones? [looking eye emoji]
Contest: begin!
Working on your backyard is a labor of love.
The smell of the fresh cut grass, the satisfaction of perfectly trimming the bushes, smelling the flowers as you tend the garden… For us it’s almost meditative.
Which backyard task do you find most relaxing?
It's raining… asphalt?
[The last time I had my roof shingles replaced was ___ ____ ago]
Here’s something you may not know…
The secret to cutting grass?
Vary your mowing pattern…
Each time you mow, do it in a different direction.
If you always cut your lawn using the same pattern, your grass learns which direction it's being cut from and begins to lean in the direction you mow.
By varying the mowing pattern, you can avoid forming ruts in the lawn!
Happy cutting :)
There are a surprising number of things to be aware of when having your driveway paved.
A question that not enough people are asking is this:
Is driveway drainage planning important?
In short, YES!
Here’s why:
With improper drainage, water is allowed to flow towards your home, and that's a big no-no – this could be catastrophic to the integrity of your home if left untreated.
So when you are getting your driveway done, be absolutely sure that you have a professional make a plan for you – so that you can go with the flow!
If you are in need of a driveway drainage plan, give us a call and we’ll be happy to help keep your home safe :)
