Talking about money is uncomfortable under many circumstances. But talking about it in a space where you’re already feeling vulnerable and emotional? SHEESH! 🥵 That can be tough. Here at WILA, we understand that talking about money and fees isn’t the easiest for most people. Yet, we also recognize that it is a necessary skill for so many aspects of adult life. As a sliding-scale clinic, we try to involve our patients in the fee-setting process starting at intake and continuing throughout treatment, giving them multiple opportunities to practice talking about money in a safe, nonjudgmental setting. Reach out to us today at https://buff.ly/3TATu4F to learn more about our sliding scale services! #slidingscaletherapy #moneytalk #feesetting #sillysaturday

Fellow psychotherapists, who can relate? Whether you're a new clinician or a well-seasoned one, there will be times when your interpretations miss the mark. Clients have many ways of indicating this to us, some more overt than others. Attending to these indications is an important part of psychotherapy, as doing so can help us identify when there might be a need for repair, better attunement, etc. #therapistthursday #therapymemes #theartofinterpretation

Meet WILA therapist Ben Chandler, MA! He shares: “Thomas Odgen begins one of his books recounting a question D. W. Winnicott is said to have asked of each of his adolescent patients: ‘What do you want to be when you grow up?’. Ogden continues: ‘This question is perhaps the most important question any of us asks ourselves from very early in life until the moment just before we die. Who would we like to become? What kind of person do we want to be? In what ways are we not ourselves? What is it that prevents us from being more the person we would like to be? How do we become more of the person we feel we have the potential to be and the responsibility to be? These are the questions that bring most patients to therapy…, though they are rarely aware that this is the case, being more focused on finding symptomatic relief. At times, the goal of treatment is to bring a patient from a state of not being able to form such questions to a state in which he is.’” Learn more about Ben at https://buff.ly/3z4yLL7 #WILAWednesday #weareWILA #featuredtherapist #losangelestherapists

Th Feature 19-Roseli.mp4
Meet WILA therapist Roseli Ribeiro, MA! She shares: "I have tried to state the need that we have to recognize this aspect of health: the non-communicating central self, forever immune from the reality principle, and forever silent. Here communication is not nonverbal; it is, like the music of the spheres, absolutely personal. It belongs to being alive. And in health, it is out of this that communication naturally arises." --Winnicott Communication is essential in therapeutic work. However, even more essential is that the type of communication that is being built in alliance with the therapist is that which comes from the "non-communicating central self." Then, creative living, which involves all the new forms found in therapeutic work, is now part of a natural way of living the life that every human being longs to live--feeling alive and real to oneself and in relation to others. Th Feature 18-Anna.mp4
Meet WILA therapist Anna Lipton, MA! She offers the following quote to provide insight into her perspective on therapy: "It's typically American to equate healing with doing something. When we have a problem, we fix it, and we prefer to do it quickly. But fixing is not the same as healing; in fact it can easily get in the way of healing...Healing happens not through doing but through feeling" -Elio Frattaroli Learn more about Anna at https://buff.ly/3z4yLL7 #WILAWednesday #WeAreWILA #featuredtherapist #losangelestherapists

Th Feature 17-Jack.mp4
Meet WILA therapist Jack Sample, MA! In his words: "Sci-Fi visionary Philip K. Dick wrote that 'the symbols of the divine show up in our world initially at the trash stratum.' In other words, wisdom can be found in what is ordinarily dismissed, discarded, or forgotten in the business of just getting by. I believe therapy can be an opportunity to sift through often underestimated feelings, thoughts, and dreams to recover a sense of one’s inherent dignity, aliveness, and potential for change." Th Feature 15-Pamela.mp4
Meet WILA therapist Pamela O'Leary, MA! In her words: "Marcel Proust's profound insight, 'The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes,' underscores the notion that by approaching the familiar with fresh, open, and imaginative eyes, we can uncover wonder and novelty in our everyday surroundings. This sentiment aligns closely with the journey we embark on in therapy. In our work, we strive to foster curiosity and mindfulness, approaching our experiences with a willingness to explore how our past has shaped us in ways that may have been previously unimaginable. It's an exploration—a voyage—into understanding and healing, where the familiar unfolds into a landscape for self-discovery."
