Navalny 20/08/2024

OTD in 2020, Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny was poisoned with a Novichok nerve agent. When he fell ill during a flight from Tomsk to Moscow, the plane made an emergency landing in Omsk, where he was taken to hospital and put in a coma. Two days later, he was medically evacuated to Berlin.

Oscar-winning film NAVALNY follows Alexei Navalny's quest to identify the men who poisoned him. Shot in Germany as the story unfolded and offering extraordinary access to the investigation, the fly-on-the-wall documentary is also a study of Navalny the man—a portrait of a leader intent on reform who would not be cowed by anything.

We were honored to work with the talented film team behind "Navalny" to create the official teaching resources for this important film. We warmly recommend this film to educators who are teaching about character and leadership, as well as democracy, civics, and civic engagement, journalism, political science, and Russian History.
