It was unclear who invented the signature dropped-waist dress, but Coco Chanel certainly helped popularise it and became a prominent designer of the 1920s.
It was after the first World War that ladies started to search for simple and comfortable clothing and abandon the heavily layered ensembles.

Fortuny (1871 – 1949) was quite literally, born to his art. The son of a well-known Spanish painter, he studied drawing, painting, sculpture, chemistry and dyes.
His studies in dyes helped him achieve groundbreaking designs, dresses that change colours and shimmer during movements.
