TEXAS TECH DAIRY BARN
Transforming an old dairy barn at Texas Tech University into something functional was one of our most cherished projects in Lubbock. We loved blending traditional craftsmanship with modern techniques.
Built in 1926, the Dairy Barn and Silo is a historic structure at what was formerly Texas Technological College. Designed by architect Wyatt Hedrick in collaboration with agricultural experts, the L-shaped complex housed milking and feeding facilities, a grain silo, and administrative spaces. Despite a fire in 1930 and operational challenges, the facility supported Tech's Dairy Manufactures Department until 1964. Efforts to preserve the barn began in the 1970s, leading to its listing on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. Renovation projects in recent years have restored the barn's exterior and surrounding landscape, culminating in a reconstruction completed in late 2020, securing its place as a cherished piece of Texas Tech's agricultural heritage.
