Calio is a word created by a friend of mine, it is based on the Finnish word ‘kallio’ which means ‘rock.’ I love taking photos and can't remember a time when I didn't! Boy did I have a hard time narrowing down which ones to post for this session, there were so many great ones! We had an interesting time getting Joe to stand still so we just went with it and Anna did a fantastic job being flexible and doing whatever was needed to get great photos. Congrats Anna!!!

Had the pleasure of doing my first ever set of 20 minute mini sessions! Here are some favorites! Photo sessions with horses can already be a gamble because they don't always cooperate as we humans would like, but fitting it in 20 minutes was an added challenge (especially when a few of the ponies were a little feisty) but still got some great ones!

Loved doing a mini session of Stormie Shelton's babies and seniors, all shorter-than-average percherons! Left to right: Ann (4 years old), June bug (26 years old), Jill (3 years old), Doc (20 years old), Sally (23 years old) and Lady (22 years old). They each have different personalities that we got to see in the short time we were there and getting all of them together for a photo was a huge accomplishment and took a team of 4 of us.

Been a while since I did a session including a pony! They're all ponies to me no matter what size 😂.... Had a lot of fun combining two of my passions doing some "senior" portraits for Levi. I'm SO glad his momma Cheyenne Davis decided to get in on the action too! These are some of my favorites!

I had the opportunity to photograph ranch horse shows that my barn family competed at. Photographing a sporting event was a new experience and I thoroughly enjoyed the practice and having a good time with everyone!

Our Story
My name is Lauren Rock and I am just a girl who loves a lot of things in life, horses, photography, and my friends and family. My photography story starts like many others, I discovered I liked taking photos of things when we traveled, I was always the one holding the family camera (until I could afford my own) and always holding up the trip so I could get the best shot before we left. In my early 20s, I started being told that I had a skill and people started asking me to take portraits. And with that, I had found an even deeper love for photography and I decided to start a photography business doing whatever people needed. And so, Calio Photography was born. Calio is actually a made up spelling of a real word; it is based on the Finnish word ‘kallio’ which means ‘rock.’
After starting my business officially, I quickly discovered that I LOVED shooting weddings because it encompassed portraits, my biggest love, and a wedding day is so fun and full of life. However, after shooting a number of weddings, I found that working full time while pursuing my love of weddings was not fair to my clients. As I needed my full time job, I was forced to close down my wedding pursuits and instead change Calio Photography to a strictly portrait photography business. While I miss weddings, I still love portrait photography and I couldn’t be happier! I’ve done a wide variety of portraits in a wide variety of locations, please review my albums for examples and ask if you’d like to see any other samples!
