Book Fair April 25th-29th

What is it? a collection of translucent vases; a collection of doilies; a small plate w/ a rim (work surface); a pitcher; a sponge; a funnel; pre-cut flowers; a holder for flowers (large toothbrush holder works well) Why do we do it? to learn how to arrange flowers; to refine equilibrium & 2 hands working together; to aid development of functional independence
Work Cycle
The guide prepares the environment and then the child engages with material that he/she chooses. Work cycle is such a precious part of the Montessori Method. This uninterrupted block of time allows for focus, learning, excitement, mistakes, accomplishment, and growth.
Red Knobbless Cylinders
Lesson of the week:
The child is introduced to the name of the material. He carries the red box to the table and places the box at the top of the table.
What is it?
*a table; a mirror; two boxes containing, each containing sets of ten cylinders
He removes one cylinder at a time, placing them randomly mid-table, and grading them horizontally from largest to smallest. After grading, he will stack the cylinders from largest to smallest. Then returns the cylinders to their box.
Why do we do it?
*to observe and compare the different series with each other
*gives a clearer idea about dimensions and their interplay
How to help at home?
Build with blocks.
