THRIVEGulu is bringing our fabulous mental health support & education programs to schools in the Palabek Refugee Settlement! Thanks to Street Child and Education Cannot Wait for a partnership to help make this possible, and our partners in Palabek: YARID Uganda, Handicap International, & AVSI. All children deserve an education, and children who have been displaced by conflict need a little extra help. #youthmentalhealth #educationmatters #refugees #survivortothriver

What better way to celebrate International Literacy Day* than to build a library!?!?! Dora, the THRIVEGulu Director at our Trauma Healing Center in Gulu, Uganda has a few words to tell you about our biggest literacy project EVER! *International Literacy Day is a UNESCO day of observance that highlights the importance of literacy for all people, communities and societies. It was celebrated for the first time in 1967. The 2023 theme is "Transforming Literacy Learning Spaces," which goes very well with our building a library for a community that doesn't have one, doesn't it?

CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?!? WE'RE BUILDING A LIBRARY!!!

POWER STATEMENTS! May is Mental Health Awareness Month! Mental health is the center of human life, but it is often not prioritized as a health concern. We at THRIVEGulu are one of the few organizations in Africa that offers solutions to people suffering from mental health issues and trauma. In Uganda, mental, neurological and substance use disorders are a major public health burden. Nationwide, there are only ~53 psychiatrists—approximately one psychiatrist per 1 million population, and they are mostly in urban areas. Since 2010, THRIVEGulu has offered mental health and psychosocial support to war victims, survivors of gender based violence, refugees, and youth - particularly child mothers and fathers in northern Uganda. Providing tools for self-help are a vital part of supporting mental health, and Gorety's Power Statement is a great tool. Our programs are working! But our beneficiaries are asking for us to do more. During this month that importantly highlights mental health, YOU can bring more mental health treatment and awareness to Gulu with your donation at THRIVEGulu.org. #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthawarenessmonth #survivortothriver #togetherwethrive
