November is National First Generation Student Month! A first generation college student is defined as someone who is the first in their family to receive a bachelor’s degree! Come hear from first-gen staff and faculty. Speakers will share stories of hope and resilience and how they navigated college. Event is November 16th 1-3pm in the FS Performance Lounge! Free Food! We celebrated Filipino American Heritage Month in a big way! We learned about the amazing legacy of Larry Itliong. We ate delicious Filipino food, made parols, and listened to Conrado Julian share history and wisdom! Such a great event!

This week we brought a second group of 30 more middle school students to our Legacy Coders Camp! Students learned how to code their very own calculator in Python from a engineer! The students worked hard, made friends and had fun!!
The Pierce College EDI CARES Upward Bound Summer Camp students took on the water last week at Spanaway Lake Park and had fun canoeing. They also made Hawaiian flower crowns which are called lei po’o (head lei). Stay tuned for more camp action.
Our TREES camp students have been busy and learning a ton about salmon recovery and how to protect fish species. This past week they visited the Chambers Creek Dam and Titlow Park to take and examine water samples. They ended the day at Pt. Defiance Park to learn about the Metro Park Filtration Project.
Our Legacy Coders Camp kicked off today. Today we had close to 30 middle school students on the campus who learned to code from an engineer at . is engaging in some innovative summer engagement and providing students with real life experiences! Did you know is running 10 different summer programs? We are busy this summer! Check out our most recent camp that kicked off this summer, TREES. TREES is a camp focused on environmental injustice. TREES students visited the Buckley Dam Fish Passage and learned a lot about how to protect fish species! Creating fun and engaging learning experiences for students all summer!
more camp action. Today, our Pierce College Upward Bound and VAKA students joined forces at a field trip to Boise Falls. Students learned about the nourishing attributes of native plants and then had the opportunity to make oils for skin irritation remedies. Exploring nature and honoring native and indigenous culture!
We kicked off our first one day camp, LINK which stands for Legacy of Indigenous & Native Knowledge. This camp represents our collaboration with the language department. Students from all over Pierce County had the opportunity to explore indigenous culture through language, song and games. Stay tuned for more camp action from
