Granny's Attic
Granny's Attic is a lovely little quilt shop owned and operated by a mother-daughter duo.
The talented ladies teach classes, create amazing custom quilts and write their own kits and patterns.
Please help keep our deer wild. Do not feed them. Also be sure to slow down and stay back. For more information, please visit: www.mccall.id.us/deer.
While our website is being remodeled, the custom quilting is in full swing!Recently free-motion quilted by Lori on the Nolting Pro30, here's a dynamic quilt pieced by Chris M. Enjoy!
The brick-and-mortar Granny's Attic in McCall is no longer open for your quilt-y pleasures, but custom quilting is still available! Watch here on our page, on Instagram, and sign up for our email newsletter to get updates about our lovely website (currently being remodeled).
Recently quilted on the Nolting Pro30, enjoy this pretty star quilt. Tina H. pieced it with her usual attention to detail--check out those perfect points!--and Lori enhanced it with custom doodle quilting. Sometimes people ask if we digitize our quilting designs. We don't, much as we might love what we create, because we want YOUR quilt to be unique with its own quilted signature. There are a few pictures from Lori's flower garden too!
Hi quilting friends! It's been a whirlwind since I last posted--closing up the shop and finalizing all the sale details (still working on details--my list was lengthy), moving furniture/fixtures/remaining inventory to my home, teaching a fun workshop with the Pinehurst Quilters, driving to San Diego and back with three anxious dogs for THE WEDDING--now in the aftermath I'm trying to organize my sewing room and all the shop things and get our pretty website up and running. Luckily I have excellent helpers--and the windows got washed yesterday so I have a brighter outlook! AND I got to experience that amazing light show in the sky last night!! Hopefully you did, too--if not, I hear there is another chance tonight. I'll be out there with my phone camera!
The workshop class was based on Rose Hughes' Dream Landscapes book. Everyone did well! Here are some pictures from Camp Trinity Pines (in Cascade, Idaho where the ladies were retreating) of our fun day. Now that I've got some freedom, I'm much more available to teach classes like this and many others. Let me know if I can help you/your group learn a new technique!
Bears are out!
Every year we receive calls referencing bears tipping over, and getting into trash bins; making quite a mess.
Keep your trash bins locked up.
Avoid leaving them outside overnight.
If your bin is broken or not functioning properly, contact your collection agency to have it replaced.
Happy Friday, McCall! It looks like we're in for a glorious weekend. Before you head out to enjoy our beautiful surroundings, be sure to check out these reminders and links to help you make the most of your time. Be sure to keep your pups safe by keeping them on a leash. Pick up after them, too! Please don't approach or feed the deer. Stay safe and recreate responsibly.

For the week of April 8, Granny's Attic will be open just two final days, Monday and Tuesday, 11am to 5 pm each of those days. We're transitioning to our website and social media, so PLEASE sign up for our emails to stay connected! We don't want to lose you!
Come on in for deep discounts on fabric, notions, kits, patterns, craft supplies, DMC, ribbons and trims, baskets, and more! Quilts and handcrafted items are still available but not discounted.
Many of the store fixtures are available to purchase as well. And there are freebies!
A while ago you saw pictures of the vintage tie quilt blocks...here is the finished quilt! It's queen size with very puffy batting to use as a bedspread. Lori made it with the string quilt method on muslin foundations, quilted it on the Nolting Pro30, and finished it off by using the tie tips like prairie points. Wow--it's dramatic! Enjoy.
For the week of April 1 (this post is not an April Fool's joke), Granny's Attic will be open Tuesday through Saturday, 11am to 5pm each of those days.
This will be the last full week of business in the shop. Select kits are 50% off, with all other merchandise EXCEPT QUILTS and HANDCRAFTS 65% off. This is a huge sale for us and a great chance for you to stock up on your fabric, notions, craft supplies, baskets, and books. Many of the store fixtures are for sale and will be available to take away the following week. Please come take a look!
An interesting project recently stitched on the Viking QDII, part of a large quilt being made by Marie M. She needed the edges of the appliqué stitched down prior to fusing to the background. Lots of white and light! Notice how different it looks against a dark background as opposed to a light one. Enjoy!
The sales aren’t over yet. As we make the transition to our e-commerce website, we’re lowering prices in our shop. Come say “hi” before we sell out!
Contact us now to have your masterpiece quilted by Lori. She’s still taking custom longarm quilting projects.
Good Morning, McCall! While we all love some powder on the mountains, it tends to make for slippery driving conditions, especially when it covers icy areas. Please drive safe today and take it slow.
For the week of March 25, Granny's Attic will be open Tuesday through Friday, 11am until 5pm each of those days.
The store inventory sale continues this week! 50% off all fabrics, trims and ribbons, notions, craft supplies, DMC floss, baskets, books. Store fixtures are also available; please come in and see what we have that might work for you.
Next week will be the final week for the store sales, then we will be transitioning to full-time e-commerce. But remember, custom quilting by Lori will still be available! Get those tops out of the cupboard and in her quilting queue!
This bright poppy quilt was a cheery note on a snowy blue evening. Brigid L. will be receiving her freshly quilted project from the Nolting longarm soon! Enjoy!
We appreciate your business and want to show it! Explore our selection of freebies while you’re getting a new fabric haul. Stop by the shop to stock up on your favorite quilting necessities.
Don’t worry, we’re not going far. During the switch to an e-commerce website, Lori is still taking custom longarm quilting projects. DM us to reserve your spot!
Hello, McCall! Happy Friday. We have some interesting weather in the forecast (which seems to be the theme this year), and as we know snow and rain mixed with freezing temps leave some slick surfaces. Please be careful when you are enjoying this wonderful place.
I'm so glad these guys are arrested and the manhunt is over.
For the week of March 19th, Granny's Attic will be open Tuesday through Saturday, 11am to 5pm each of those days.
Big sale this week! 35% off all fabrics, notions and trims, thread and DMC floss. Watch for more sale prices next week!
Recently quilted on the Nolting longarm, here is a block-of-the-month quilt Lori made and finished. The pattern is from Art to Heart, and the methods used include hand embroidery, machine appliqué, piecing, and free-motion quilting. Enjoy! It's for sale...it could be yours!
As St. Patrick’s Day nears this coming weekend, we want to remind those celebrating to make plans now for a sober ride home.
March 14th–18th, the McCall Police Department is joining the Idaho Transportation Department’s Office of Highway Safety (OHS) and law enforcement agencies statewide to increase patrols for impaired driving.
Nationally St. Patrick’s Day is one of the deadliest times on the road. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 272 people were killed in drunk driving crashes during the St. Patrick’s Day holiday period between 2017 and 2021.
Here in Idaho there were 1,799 impaired driving crashes killing 110 people during 2022, according to OHS data. Law enforcement agencies across the state made 7,781 DUI arrests in the same year.
While officers are always keeping an eye out for impaired drivers, it takes commitment from the entire community to prevent dangerous drivers from causing crashes. If a friend tries to drive drunk, step in and take away the keys. If it is your turn to be the designated driver, take the job seriously and don’t drink. Make the smart choice to plan for a sober driver to get you and your friends and family home safely.
Funding for extra patrols focused on impaired driving enforcement this St. Patrick’s Day is provided by a grant through OHS and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
More impaired driving prevention materials are available online at shift-idaho.org/beheretomorrow/.

Spring is on the way! Local wildlife are becoming more active. Please remember to keep trash in bear-proof receptacles and not to feed the deer. Visit mccall.id.us/wildlife for more information on wildlife in McCall.
For the week of March 10, Granny's Attic will be open Tuesday through Saturday, 10ish to 5 each of those days.
Notions, including stencils, thread, and assorted machine accessories are on sale for 25% off this week!
If you don't love the final step of binding your quilt, we can do that for you. Usually we hand finish a machine-applied double French-folded and mitered binding. But we can also do a machine finished mitered binding with a tiny decorative fl**ge (much like flat piping) known as 'Susie's Magic Binding.' For a tutorial on the latter, check YouTube for Aunt Marti's Magic Binding.
