Story Time! I live in Darr Estates. It is one of the oldest communities in Heath. It’s a close-knit neighborhood. It’s like the bar in “Cheers.” Everyone knows your name in Darr Estates. A wise man once said that the secret to happiness is knowing your neighbors and a short commute. Well, my commute sucks, but we take knowing your neighbors seriously in Darr Estates. So, we got hit with a storm a while back, but only a few folks had their roofs inspected after the storm. I saw maybe 25% of the neighborhood get a new roof right after the storm. *That’s very typical BTW. Every house without significant tree coverage gets hit, but only a third of homeowners will get their roof inspected. Tejas had recently stepped in to help a couple of neighbors get their roof claim approved a year plus after the storm, so I knew that these roofs had been compromised and I was on the lookout. I told my neighbor Glenn we had been inspecting roofs in the neighborhood and found several that had been damaged. I also told Glenn we had found several that were still in great shape. Sidenote - Glenn is the greatest neighbor ever. He is the neighbor you pray to have when you move into a new home. Smart, friendly, funny, and kind. We are blessed to have him as a neighbor. I could see from the ground structures that Glenn probably had significant roof damage, so I asked him if he had ever gotten his roof inspected. Glenn said he hadn’t even thought about it. (Again, very common. If it’s not broke, don’t fix it! The problem is a roof is usually broken well before it starts leaking.) Glenn said he would gladly let me take a look for him. I did that same day. He had damage, plenty of it. I walked him through the process of making a claim. It was easy. I met the adjuster at his home that same week. We put a brand new roof on Glenn’s home ten days later. The whole process took about a couple of weeks and about an hour of Glenn’s time. I don’t want to say it was e

Last week I conducted a second inspection with an insurance adjuster on a very sweet woman’s house. If you are doing a second inspection, it means that we (the homeowner and the contractor) are not yet in agreement with the findings of the insurance company. In this case, we believe the insurance company should help this woman pay for a new roof because hers has been damaged beyond repair by wind and hail. The insurance company disagreed after our first inspection. So, I went back out to collect additional evidence at the home. I also wrote up my findings and the justification in detail. After a lengthy back and forth, they granted a second inspection. Here’s the thing. I really want this roof. Not because it’s a big payday. It’s not. It’s a really small roof actually. I want this roof because my client desperately needs a new roof. Hers is damaged and leaking. She can’t afford a new one. Her husband passed a few years back and finances are tight. She hasn’t told me this, but I know her situation is tough. She works all the time just to keep up. But she never complains. In fact, she is one of the most pleasant and joyful clients I have ever worked with. She is constantly thanking me and encouraging me. We have even prayed together for the inspector. Well, we got a great inspector last week. He and I were fast friends and he did everything he could to help us demonstrate our case. We’re still waiting to hear from the insurance company, but she does have a very old roof with a lot of wear and tear. Our chances are slim, but we’re both hopeful. She really needs this roof. I sure hope we can get it for her. Luckily, I have at least one ace up my sleeve. If the insurance company fails to step up and help, we can still get creative. I don’t need to get paid on every job. It’s here. The end of summer. Kids are heading back to school and college football is right around the corner. It’s time to ask the question. How did we do? Check out this recent Tejas project in Heath! A fresh coat of paint and a new roof completely changed this home. It was beautiful before, but now it’s gorgeous! The difference is incredible. You know what’s not different? The family inside. They didn't change a bit. They were awesome before we started the job, and they remain awesome today. They just have a tougher roof and a prettier drive-up. Now they have a roof that is a little closer to being deserving of the wonderful family it protects every day. What else is like that?
