This one will look really cool in a few months. Removed the existing gravel and put in a flowerbed full of native texas plants. Every little bit we can do for the local ecosystem helps.

Up front, there's some alternating red yucca and prickly pear cactus. The yucca is great for attracting hummingbirds, butterflies, and being a constant nectar source for bees. The prickly pear super low maintenance and is actually edible. These size provide some evergreen structure for the bed when the perennials die back over the winter.

Frogfruit is scattered throughout as a groundcover that will fill in the gaps between all the larger plants. It blooms from spring through fall and is a fantastic pollinator plant.

The inside part of the bed near the sidewalk has groups of blue Salvia which is super low maintenance and flowers from spring all the way til frost. It also attracts hummingbirds and butterflies

The middle of the bed has a group of Texas sage which should fill in nicely and provide some structure. It's also a great pollinator plant and one of my personal favorites

The left side has a desert willow for a centerpiece plant. It's a small, drought resistant, native tree that can flower spring through fall and will attract native birds.

The right side has an Agave Americana as it's centerpiece. These are native to southern united states and Mexico. They are super low maintenance, essentially disease free and look amazing.

Behind those are groups of anisicanthus. This is another perennial commonly known as a hummingbird bush. Obviously by the name, it's fantastic for attracting hummingbirds with its tubelike red flowers that it will have from summer through fall.

Will go back and post some growth progress pictures in a couple months

Latest project. Front yard remodel. Pulled some existing shrubs including the overgrown boxwoods and invasive nandinas.

We opened the bed up a little bit and adjusted the irrigation to match.

Planted some frogfruit towards the front for ground cover. It spreads really quickly and should fill in some of the gaps in the bed. It's a host plant for 3 native butterflies and is also a great pollinator plant which can bloom from April through October

Next up is some sea oats which should also spread and fill in some more of the open space. It has some pretty seed heads which birds love throughout the fall.

There's some chili tepin which is a native hot pepper that birds love and is also edible by humans.

There is a Texas mountain laurel which will really anchor the bed near the front door. It is evergreen and puts off amazing early spring blue/purple flowers.

Mixed throughout is also blue salvia and turks cap which will give awesome color and are magnets to hummingbirds and pollinators.

There's some wood fern, sabal minor, dwarf yaupon, and muhley grass mixed throughout which are all native to the area and help provide structure.

Excited to see this one in bloom in a couple months. Should be very low maintenance, drought resistant, and colorful as well as beneficial to local wildlife 😊

Spring is upon us so people will be out working in their yards and planting new things. With that in mind, we urge people to use native texas plants. By doing so, you will be helping local wildlife and at the same time end up with much less yard maintenance because the plants will already be in an area that meets their specific requirements. This means a more sustainable environment, a lower water bill, and more time enjoying your yard instead of working in it.

If you know how to drain your irrigation system, do it.

Try and cover up the shutoff valve to protect it. Wrap it in a plastic bag or blanket if you can. At least find it so you know where it is and can close it if something breaks

Make sure all your valve boxes have their lids on

If you do end up with a busted pipe, we can help get it fixed
