***SCAM ALERT***
Scammers are impersonating Shelby County Sheriff's Office deputies and other Shelby County officials to defraud citizens. Threats are made stating that you will be arrested or face legal action if you don't comply with their demands immediately. These scams may start with a phone call, followed by attempts to obtain cash, gift cards, or identifying information over the phone or by meeting in person.

Please remember:
• The Shelby County Sheriff's Office or any government agency will never demand money or personal information over the phone.
• We will never require you to stay on the phone while driving to obtain or deliver anything.
• If you are unsure about a call's legitimacy, HANG UP and call a known phone number that you trust for a law enforcement agency. Or, go in person to your local police department, sheriff's office, or courthouse to inquire about the matter.
Here are some red flags to watch out for:
• The caller uses a threatening or intimidating tone.
• They claim you have outstanding warrants or missed court appearances.
• They demand immediate payment for fines or fees.
