Unfixed rabbit behavior is one of the top reasons people want to rehome. Read on for the reasons spay/neuter is so highly recommended.
Did you know that male rabbits are still fertile 8-10 weeks after neuter? It’s true! And accidental litters can and have happened in this timeframe. Male rabbits will fight each other due to raging hormones if they’re unfixed and are also at risk of developing testicular cancer if unneutered.
Did you know female rabbits have up to an 80-85% chance of developing uterine cancer? It’s as high as 60% once they are only 3 years old! That’s still a young rabbit! That’s a painful experience we know you don’t want your rabbit to have.
Please spay & neuter your bunnies. We know it’s expensive and may take some time to save for, but it’s worth it for your rabbit. There are so many benefits, and it is completely safe with a bunny savvy exotic vet. Need a recommendation? Please reach out to us!

💜 Happy New Beginning, Truffles (now Pepper)! 💜

You may not recognize Pepper because she didn’t even make it to our website! When her foster went out of town, we set up Pepper with a temp foster, and it didn’t take long for Pepper to make herself at home and to show off with lots of zoomies. It was love at first binky! Pepper hadn’t been spayed yet, so after her surgery and a little recovery time, she was officially adopted. Her loving bun mum has this to say:

Pepper loves exploring and anything new I have in the area she goes over the sniff it 😂 We’ve been hanging out and Pepper has been testing out every spot to lay in until she finds her favorite one when she’s not running around. Thank you for taking care of Pepper and for all the support in my adoption journey!

Congratulations! 🥰

Please help end the sale of rabbits in pet stores. Sign this petition and share.

Petco, one of America's largest pet retailers, is starting the sale of rabbits within their stores. These animals often live in poor conditions and face several potential health risks, including malnutrition. Rabbits are almost all of the time impulse buys, when bought in pet stores. They also commonly suffer from stress, due to their conditions and the constant interaction with humans. Rabbits are not merchandise; they are sentient beings deserving of care and respect. Rabbits are the third most abandoned pet in the United States, as reported by the Humane Society. By selling rabbits, Petco indirectly contributes to this pet abandonment issue. We call upon Petco to take a stance on animal welfare, lead by example, and cease the sale of rabbits in their stores. Act now and sign this petition to show your support for stopping the sale of rabbits at Petco. All the local rescues are full to the brim with rabbits and receive 10-20 surrender requests a day with each request ranging from 1-20 rabbits. We need to do better for these poor rabbits.

Most so-called rabbit treats are the equivalent of candy, providing non-nutritious and unhealthy junk that can cause potential harm to your rabbit. Read ingredient lists of any food you give your rabbit, and avoid the following:

PELLETS - Do NOT feed pellets that contain seeds, nuts, or starch-rich cereal kibble mixed in.

PROCESSED CEREAL KIBBLE - products designed to substitute for pellets that tend to be lower in fiber and higher in fat. They are also extremely expensive and come with feeding recommendations destined to give a spayed or neutered house rabbit obesity.

MUESLIX - mixes made of carbohydrate and fat-rich seeds and grains such as oats, milo, corn, peas, sunflower seeds, potatoes, peanuts, puffed corn, cornflakes, popcorn, and dried fruits. They are often held together into “sticks” with honey and other sugars.

CANDIES/SUGARS - can include everything from yogurt drops to sweetened papaya tablets. Avoid feeding your rabbit simple sugars and instead stick with nutritious treats such as vegetables and herbs; save the sweets for an occasional banana or blueberry snack.

🙏🏻 Donations requested 🙏🏻

Irregularly-shaped p**p and cloudy urine can indicate your rabbit is experiencing a digestive or urinary issue. It's so important to keep an eye on the contents of your rabbit's litter box and to pay attention to changes in behavior, such as sudden urination outside the box. When Bindi's observant foster saw this funny p**p and noticed that she peed outside the box twice, she alerted us and we're so glad she did. Bindi was diagnosed with UTI and mild statis, both of which could become very serious if left untreated. She's now taking medication for both.

We're asking for donations to cover this $200 vet bill. Any amount helps and your donation allows us to keep saving rabbits!

If you're able to add a note, please say the donation is for Bindi.

Thanks y'all, we can't save these bunnies without your generosity! 💚

🐇 Do you own a flooring store or know someone who does? New Beginnings Animal Rescue is in search of scrap pieces of vinyl, measuring at least 6 ft by 6 ft. We use these rolls of vinyl under the pens of the rabbits in foster homes to protect the floors and carpet of the wonderful people who foster for us. We've run out of vinyl and are in need of additional pieces so we can set up our rabbits in more foster homes, thereby allowing us to take in more rabbits. Your donation of vinyl will help us continue to save bunnies! 🐇

It's Guinea Pig Appreciation Day! We're helping our friends at Oktibbeha County Humane Society spread the word about two male and four female Guinea Pigs they have available for adoption. There are two moms (approx 1-2 years old), and the babies are around 3-4 months. If interested, fill out either the cat or dog application (they don't have one for the pigs)- https://www.ochsms.org/adopt/.

Adoption fee is $25 each, and they prefer to send in pairs. They will separate into singles if needed, but piggies do better in pairs.

This is all the info that we have. For questions, contact Oktibbeha County Humane Society.

🌞 🐇 FOSTER a SUMMER BUNNY! 🐇 🌞

New Beginnings Animal Rescue is foster-based, meaning we depend on good folks like you to help provide a clean, safe, and loving home for our animals until they're adopted. We are in desperate need of immediate foster homes for our rabbits.

Fostering a rabbit for the summer is a great way to teach your kids the responsibility of pet ownership - WITHOUT the long-term commitment, but WITH all the fun!

We're also looking for more long-term fosters (3+ months) and very short-term, like for a long weekend. Whatever your availability, we need you!

When you foster a rabbit, we provide all of the supplies except for daily fresh veggies, which costs about $7 a week.

Here are just a few buns in need of foster homes:

💚 Blitzen - a smart boy found on the Green Line around Christmas last year.

💛 Butters - raised as meat but somehow escaped his cage and was rescued by a neighbor. When the owner did not want him back, Butters made our way to us.

💚 Cherry & Willow - a bonded pair, possibly sisters, found with a few other buns that were “set free” at Shelby Farms.

💛 Frosty - a laid-back and friendly Ruby-Eyed White bun.

Interested? Check out our site for Foster FAQs, fill out the foster application and we will be in touch to discuss the next steps!

https://newbeginningsrabbitrescue.org/foster/

If you’re not able to foster you can still help us out by sharing this post and telling your friends/family about us!

Thanks, y'all! 💜

Our latest intakes need medical assistance. These three girls all need to be spayed before they can go to foster homes or be adopted. The sooner that happens, the more rabbits we’ll be able to take in! Also we fear that Blanca is deaf and has a respiratory infection (or worse). She needs a vet visit ASAP to receive antibiotics.

We’re hoping to raise at least $750 to cover the cost of three spays and Blanca’s wellness check plus medication. Any amount helps us get these bunnies the care they need!

💚 BLANCA - a feisty lop taken in by MAS before making her way to us. She had a companion who sadly did not make it.

💛 PITA - a sweet stray found in a backyard in Southaven.

💚 TRUFFLE - a high class stray found on Park Ave 😆

PayPal: [email protected]

If you're able to add a note to the donation, please say it’s for rabbit spays.

Thanks, y'all!

We can't do

without YOU! 😍

This friendly and very fluffy boy is a survivor…a fighter….a tough little guy with a huge heart. Willie is the runt of the “Fuzzy Bunch”, rescued in Millington in the summer of 2020. At the time of rescue, his left eye was injured. He’s permanently blind in that eye, but it’s as if he doesn’t notice!

Willie was adopted into a wonderful home by a loving family who enjoyed life with him until they discovered their young son’s months of suffering from allergies was caused by Willie’s fur. Heartbroken for them and for Willie, we are once again looking for a loving home for him. He has been back in foster care for 152 days.

Like all rabbits Willie needs regular grooming, but given his longer coat, it’s especially important. He has great litter box skills and has learned to trust his human friends. Willie has a huge personality and keeps us laughing with his comical expressions. He loves to run and play with his canine friends and explore the tunnels and boxes. One more thing…don’t forget his bedtime snack or you may just get the “stink eye”!

Want to meet Willie? Fill out an application at https://newbeginningsrabbitrescue.org/adoption-process/

It’s cotton tail season … we get countless emails and messages from people who are finding cottontails. They live here too… leave them be.

It is illegal to take them unless you are a licensed wildlife rehabber. We are not wildlife rehabbers.

Foster FAQ 03/05/2024

🚨 FOSTERS NEEDED 🚨

New Beginnings Animal Rescue is foster-based, meaning that we depend on good folks like you to help house and care for our animals until they're adopted.

🐇 We are bursting at the seams and in desperate need of new fosters for our bunnies as some of our current fosters take a break for summer travel. We're unable to take in any more rabbits until we can move some of our current buns into new foster homes 🐇

💚 Sassy Lionhead Olive needs a foster. She has excellent litter box skills and loves free roam time when she’ll show off with zoomies and binkys! You can read more about Olive on our website (see below).

Fostering is the perfect way for you and your family to experience the joy and fun of a rabbit without the long-term commitment. When you foster a bun, the ONLY thing you pay for is fresh veggies, which is about $7 a week. We are especially interested in those who can commit to at least 3-months and are not taking any long trips over summer. If you're interested but can't do a full three months/are traveling, please fill out the foster application anyway.

Check out our site for Foster FAQs and to fill out the application - https://newbeginningsrabbitrescue.org/foster/

And remember, when you ADOPT a rescue animal, you save TWO lives: the one you adopt, and the next animal in need that we're able to take in because of your adoption. 😍
