The Roths were our 2013 family. They flew into Memphis for their fundraiser with newborn Callie before heading home from Florida. Precious family!
Trenton and Beth were married in June of 1999. They hadn’t really discussed an exact number of children they wanted, but they were both open to the idea of a bigger family and figured they’d just see what the Lord had in store for them. They welcomed twin sons, Joshua and Bryce in September of 2000 and then triplets (one girl and two boys) Jessie, Payton and Braden just 19 months later in April 2002.
Five kids under two years old wasn’t necessarily what they had in mind, but they gladly embraced the five blessings God had sent their way. After having 5 kids in less than 2 years, they took a LONG break from any discussions of more children while they tried to survive successfully getting them to school age. In 2009, the twins were 9 and the triplets were 7 and life was much easier than it had been in previous years. Care for the children had become less physical as they could do most things for themselves by this point and parenting duties had morphed into the guiding of young minds and ever-evolving personalities, as well as protecting four growing boys from themselves.
Trenton and Beth suffered the second trimester miscarriage of a surprise pregnancy and were heartbroken. Those dreams of what would it have been like to have another baby to love on and add to the family became discussions about the reality of having more children. They had friends and family members who had adopted and that seemed like the natural course for them, as well. Beth said, “We knew there were children being born every day into the world without parents who could care for them due to any number of life circumstances and challenges. We had love in our hearts, room in our home and a desire to see where God would lead us next on this journey.”
They began the home study process in the summer of 2012 and were warned their family might not really be what an expectant mother was looking for, as they already had multiple biological children in the home. However they decided to put themselves out there and let God open the doors as He saw fit.
In May of 2013, 9 months after completing their home study, they brought home their daughter, Callie (Sacred Selections #65). Their older children had always been so close in age, and being multiples, they never really had the true experience of being an “older” sibling, but they took to it like green on grass. The family jokes that Callie was never put down or lacking for attention as there was always at least one out of the seven of them holding, loving on or playing with her.
Trenton and Beth started discussing what life would look like in 5-6 years as the twins and then just a year later the triplets started leaving the nest and heading to college, etc. Callie would still be a young child and would go from being 1 of 6 at home to living like an only child. They knew they wanted her to have a sibling to grow up with, but they were unsure of the timing. Prior to adopting Callie, they had networked with several different agencies and attorneys and in January of 2014 they got a call from one of them. They wanted to know what the family’s situation was and if they’d be interested in a situation they had developing. The adoption with Callie wasn’t finalized, but Trenton and Beth began talking to this agency about the situation they had. They had an expectant mother who wanted a large family (she had grown up in a large family) and one from Illinois (where she had originally also lived). Trenton and Beth were the only family they had at the time that fit that bill and she was interested in them being parents to her unborn child.
They had to wait to finalize Callie’s adoption before they could begin the home study process again, per Illinois laws. In early February 2014, almost 9 months after she was born, Callie’s adoption was finalized and the same day, they had their first video call with this expectant mother and began renewing their home study.
