Gearing up for a big Day on the Hill tomorrow! The best part will be seeing 70+ young people engaging with their legislators as they advocate for policies that affect their lives directly, even though they can't all vote yet. If you can't make it, you can still take action at The Education Trust's Advocacy Hub! https://thealliancetn.org/advocacy-resource-hub/ #GearedUpandReady2Lead

Shoutout to the Center for High School Success Director Lori Oduyoye for this great testimony in favor of HB 1295, which would invest in targeted 9th grade student success supports! HB 1295 is one of the winners of EdTrust TN's Ten for Tennessee award, and CHSS' important work to increase freshmen on-track rates is featured! https://edtrust.org/tennessee/ten-for-tennessee/
School security staff once again use pepper spray against students, adding to the toxic culture of criminalizing our youth in schools. Since school officers and SROs are here to stay for the time being, we're supporting Board Member Sheleah Harris' call for a Code of Conduct to prevent this unnecessary violence in the future. Read our blog for our full statement: https://stand.org/tennessee/blog/trigger-warning-school-security-staff-once-again-use-pepper-spray-against-students/

Senate Judiciary Committee
Two incredible sophomore high school students - Milana Kumar and Salina Shamsuddin - who are lead organizers from Memphis of the Tennessee Youth Coalition - are here in person testifying on SB 1944, which is part of the dangerous national effort to ban books that are from or about people of color, discuss race, or tell LGBTQIA+ stories.
When students are unable to learn about the full spectrum of experiences of their peers and truth in history, everyone suffers. You can still take action to protect Truth In History too! https://action.stand.org/ml53Xl7?fbclid=IwAR0tgo1RyIyTfUr_WrAQ9YO0h5zCkU-6_OnFkcFrzE8FPW58BHmgN739I8M
