We are a competitive Christian baseball program for Memphis area homeschoolers
Finishing out the introductions to our varsity staff, we’d like to introduce you to our “numbers man”… Nic Penny.
Nic is a native of Oakland, TN and grew up in Tupelo, MS. He is a sports fanatic, but enjoys baseball the most. He has coached within the MHEA Baseball program since 2019 and has volunteered in Somerville with the Dixie and Diamond Youth league.
His love for the game came from his father and brother who traveled around North Mississippi with several teams. Nic’s enthusiasm and interest for data and analytics drives his passion, after all we know baseball is a game of numbers and we are thankful for Nic’s attention to detail.
Coach Nic’s favorite saying is “flush it”, as a reminder to keep battling even when things don’t go your way. Baseball is a game of failure, but his favorite part of the game is seeing young men take those failures and turn them into life lessons.
Join us in wishing Coach Jake a very Happy Birthday!! Thanks Coach for all you do for our team and families.
Meet JV/Varsity assistant coach, Nathan Hubbard.
A Memphis native, and homeschool graduate, Nathan has always had a love for sports, especially baseball and basketball. Nathan is a graduate of Memphis-Area Home Education Association where he was a part of the varsity basketball program.
Nathan considers it a privilege to share his love for both sports with his sons and their teammates as he has been a part of the basketball coaching staff for five years, and the baseball staff for three years.
Nathans love for the game is matched by his love for MHEA and the desire to make this program a feared name in the area.
Nathan, we appreciate the sportsmanship you display on the field for the players, and the standards you hold them to as young men.
Fall workouts are in full swing, and while we don’t want to rush things, we are really looking forward to spring!
We wanted to take a chance to introduce you all to our coaching staff over the next few weeks, starting with our varsity head coach, Jake Cooper.
Jake is no stranger to the baseball scene. He started playing baseball at an early age, played travel ball with Memphis Tigers, high school baseball at Briarcrest Christian School, and college baseball at Christian Brothers University. Coaching baseball became special to him as he was given the chance to coach both of his sons in their early years, and then he joined MHEA in 2022 as an assistant coach for the varsity team.
If you hear Jake speak, you’ll quickly learn his heart for the boys, the MHEA baseball program and for baseball. Jake’s most commonly used phrase on the field is “play for the brotherhood” as he’s always emphasizing the team aspect in baseball, encouraging the guys to do their best, even when they don’t feel like it, because their ‘brothers’ depend on them.
We are thankful for Jake, and excited for the vision he brings to the program.
