Fear does not mean your dog is well-behaved, fear means they continue their behaviors out of sight.
Socialization is a BIG part of a dog's life. Desensitization is done by exposing a puppy/ dog to the environment in small increments & by helping them make positive associations to the things within it. Owners should never overexpose their puppy/ dog to new things, which could cause them to become sensitized. By forcing or overwhelming a puppy/dog you cause them to make a negative association to things in the environment. Which in turn can cause them to become more fearful &/or aggressive.
Do to us being over booked we are not accepting any new clients at this time. If you are needing to find a trainer we recommend looking for one on APDT.com . Thank you for your understanding!
Puppies should receive a minimum of 1 set of vaccines at least 7 days prior to the first class and a first deworming. They should be kept up-to-date on vaccines throughout the class.
Puppy group classes are held in controlled environments, which are thoroughly disinfected after each class.
Please keep puppies away from dog parks and other heavily traveled pet areas until they have received all of their vaccinations.
Whenever you say “Yes” or click, you need to do so as a dog is performing the behavior. If you mark a behavior after a dog has completed it, it’s too late.
The age at which the dogs learn this does not matter as much as can they perform these behaviors in front of people.
A lack of physical stimulation can create or contribute to many behavior problems.
In accordance with the 'No Free Lunch Policy', a dog only gets fed when they are politely waiting for their bowl.
I have a story to tell you
I worked with a couple & they had a standard male poodle puppy. He was the cutest white fur ball with energy for days!
They told me one session that the puppy loves to bark at the TV when there is another dog on the screen. They told me they would purposely put movies on that showed animals so everyone could have a fun night, the owners laughing & the puppy playing.
I recommended that they no longer continue that activity because it could turn into a negative behavior. They couldn't understand why it was such a bad thing if the dog is having fun. Shortly after this session, they discontinued their training with me.
Several months later they came back to me for some more training. This time the "little furball" was an 85 lbs full-grown standard male poodle. I asked what brings them in & they told me he has broken 3 TVs because his barking has also been jumping at the TV & pushes on them over.
Just because It's cute now, doesn't mean it's cute when they are their full-grown self. Just because they are small, doesn't mean they are not negative behaviors. Just because you think they wouldn't do that, doesn't mean they won't. Think about every possible outcome before letting them continue that behavior.
If you are not consistent, your dog will get confused
If your dog gets confused, the dog will shut down
If the dog shuts down, you will get frustrated & no one has fun.
Communication is key, dogs don't speak human & humans don't speak dog.
Sniff walks are the best! You can relax outside & your dog can relax their mind

Also, think of other rewards that your dog will want. Toys, food, physical touch, play, or hyping them up are some basic ones.
Which will you pick?
Work a dog's brain & they will stay calm for hours. What is your dog's favorite mental stimulation activity?
A lot goes into taking care of a dog but it is all worth it at the end of the day
Making it halfway doesn't mean you finished. When training your dog always re-evaluate often. You will be surprised how much has changed over a month or even a week.
Be patient, take one step at a time & have fun!
Patience is key when teaching someone a new skill, patience is key when you are learning a new skill.
Does your dog have inappropriate behaviors they learned? What is an activity your dog enjoys?
Dogs communicate by body langue. If you want your dog to stop barking, take away the reason why they are barking.
Let's talk about why we work on "Wait" & not "Stay" with basic behaviors.
"Wait" is a pause behavior. You want your dog to hold a sit or down till you are able to release them forward. For example, you are walking your dog & you want to cross the street. You cue your dog to wait so you are able to look both ways before crossing the street.
"Stay" is a freezing behavior. You want your dog to stop & not move till you come back to them & release the dog. For example, you accidentally drop a glass. You cue your dog to stay so you are able to pick up the glass & make sure your dog doesn't get hurt.
When we have goals we need to break them down into small, manageable steps. Once we complete our mini-goals, stop, take a break & celebrate the success.
Training is not a "one size fits all" but these are the very basics for training a dog if they are new to you, new to your home, or in need of some new behaviors.
Training is a partnership, usually, owners only look at one side of the leash

Every new Client must start with a consultation, during the consultation we discuss if in-home training or location training is best for your dog & what their needs are.
