, Hurricane Katrina. My family was devastated at the loss, the camp that once stood had belonged to my great grandfather and had been passed down many generations over the numerous years. The loss was taken the hardest by my father, who considered the camp his home. A few years after the storm, our family had decided to rebuild. With much hesitation, they finally completed the project. During the process of rebuilding their camp, 6 beautiful oyster shells were found at the edge of the camp. My mother believed that they acted as a symbol of renewal, not only for our camp, but for the whole city that had been affected by the wrath of the storm. After the very emotional moment my mother had experienced, she decided to keep the shells. Many years later, she thought that she wanted to do something with the shells that had meant so much to her. She then came up with putting them on a picture frame and putting the picture of the many generations of boys at the camp in the center. After the frame was completed she looked to the frame as a sign of hope and revival. After seeing how much that frame helped her, I thought to myself "why not share that feeling of hope and revival to others." From that moment on came Salt Bayou Creations. All of our oysters come straight from Salt Bayou for the sole reason of providing our buyers with the sense of history the shells provide. Our dream for the business is to provide everyone with a sense of hope. No matter what you are going through, what struggle or trial you are facing, we hope that our creations can give you the strength to keep pushing through and to never give up on what your truly believe in.
