Day 4 features a longstanding tradition for 70000TONS OF METAL, the annual Belly Flop Contest which is hosted at the Solarium Pool on Deck 11. Our panel of expert judges, assembled from a fine cast of musicians, judge Sailors’ belly flops into the pool and assign scores. The crowd goes wild as Belly Floppers dive and make a splash! The winners of the contest are awarded with medals and celebrate by uncorking and splashing bottles of champagne.
Jamming in International Waters is the All-Star Jam on board 70000TONS OF METAL, one of the highlights of the festival! This year we were graced by Alexander Krull (Official) and Clémentine Delauney as they hosted this Heavy Metal history making event. Metal and Rock classics were performed by world-class musicians who banded together to jam out in the Royal Theater.
Select musicians host Exclusive Artist Clinics on board, giving Sailors the chance to get a masterclass from some of Heavy Metal’s finest musicians from across the Globe.
As the non-stop action enters the final night on board, the Sailor organized Costume Party begins. One Sailor dressed in costume exclaims, “it’s awesome to be because you see that the Artists are [nearby] hanging out with everyone else”. This event is an incredibly fan-friendly scenario that has no comparison. It’s like having an All-Access backstage pass!
The event draws near its end and the final performance on board the Pool Deck Stage, the World’s Biggest Open Air Stage Structure to Ever Sail the Open Seas, is none other than the Finnish symphonic titans, Nightwish. After 2 days of non-stop Heavy Metal concert action at Sea, our ship (the Freedom of the Seas) cast its anchor at our beautiful Caribbean port of call, Bimini early in the morning. This picturesque island destination features white sand beaches, crystal clear waters, and various attractions to indulge in.
On Bimini Sailors have the day to explore the island with some even opting to join exclusive Artist Escorted Shore Excursions. Members of KAMELOT take part in the Eco Conch Tour while members of Kreator enjoy a day at the beach petting stingrays. Everybody is a VIP at 70000TONS OF METAL, musicians and Sailors alike enjoy a full sun drenched day side by side for the ultimate fan friendly experience which has no comparison! David, a Sailor from Belgium, was elated to celebrate his birthday in Bimini alongside Frederic Leclercq of KREATOR. Martin Furia and Randy Black of Destruction remark, “we’re having a great time, the atmosphere [at 70000TONS OF METAL] is amazing! Nothing compares to [this event]!”.
Our International Ambassadors of Heavy Metal, the 70000TONS OF METAL Pool Girls and Pool Boys, have a photo shoot on the beach under the beautiful Caribbean sky. Late in the afternoon Sailors return to the ship and prepare to depart from the port for another fantastic evening packed full of Heavy Metal shows.
Sailors head to the Main Dining Room on Deck 3 to enjoy a delicious dinner before heading to venues to watch concerts in the evening and into the night. Featured performances on Day 3 include: Belphegor, Feuerschwanz, and Visions of Atlantis.
