Working on the tricky /r/ sound! 🎉 In this video, watch as our client makes fantastic progress. The clinician uses tactile cues to remind the client not to close his mouth, avoiding the /w/ sound. Segmenting sounds like “r-ainbow” helps, and by the end, he nails the /r/ sound in “rat”! 🐭 #SpeechTherapy #Progress #Articulation #TherapyTips #superherospeech #speechtherapy #occupationaltherapy #st #ot

In this video, we are working with a child who exhibits echolalia, often repeating what is asked or “echoing” the final word of a sentence. He also displays use of single-word utterances. Our approach involves using sentence strips to guide him in understanding how to formulate more complete answers. Our goals are to: ✨ Utilize echolalia as a tool for functional communication ✨ Expand vocabulary by naming classroom nouns ✨ Encourage the use of four-word utterances ✨ Implement carrier phrases such as “It is a...” for communication ✨ Foster the ability to request help #SpeechTherapy #superherospeech #occupationaltherapy #st #ot #echolalia
Using @speechtreeco mini objects to achieve multiple goals during school sessions! 🎯 Targeting: ✨ Extending Utterances: Using 2-3 word phrases like “I want popcorn.” ✨ Labeling Nouns: Naming their favorite food items, such as popcorn and donuts. ✨ Requesting: Expressing their wants/needs with phrases like “I want popcorn” or “I want donut.” ✨ Understanding prepositions: Understanding “on” while following directions, such as place the item on the donut. #SpeechTherapy #SLP #LanguageDevelopment #SpeechGoals #SpeechTherapy #superherospeech #occupationaltherapy #st #ot
Look at this amazing progress! The first clip shows her just starting with her AAC device in 2019, and the second and third clips are from today 👏🏻 The amount of growth she has made in these past few years is absolutely incredible! She has worked so hard with her speech therapists and behavioral therapists over these years, and her success is evident in these videos. She is a testament to how beneficial AAC devices can be! AAC devices benefit nonspeaking individuals by enabling effective communication, reducing frustration, and promoting social interaction and academic engagement. These benefits ultimately enhance their overall quality of life. If you are interested in an AAC device for your child, please let your therapist know or contact our office directly. It is such an honor to witness our kiddos find their voices! #speechtherapy #st #occupationaltherapy #ot #behavioraltherapy #aba #superherospeech #aac
We recently hosted a foam party for our kiddos, which our therapists creatively incorporated into their sessions. In this session, the client focused on practicing her /sh/ sounds within sentences, like ‘shoes’ and ‘spaceship.’” 👞🚀 #SpeechTherapy #superherospeech #occupationaltherapy #st #ot

Parallel play is a developmental stage commonly observed in young children. This behavior is a natural part of early social development. Children at this stage are beginning to explore their surroundings and develop their own interests, but they may not yet have developed the social skills to engage in cooperative play. Parallel play provides important opportunities for children to observe others, learn from their actions, and develop their own sense of identity. Over time, as children become more comfortable with social interactions, they typically progress from parallel play to more cooperative forms of play. #parallelplay #superherospeech #shs #st #speechtherapy #ot #occupationaltherapy #aba #behavioraltherapy #feedingtherapy #ft
In speech therapy, working on sentences entails guiding individuals to construct grammatically correct expressions through various techniques and exercises. Therapists employ a range of strategies, including starting with simple subject-verb-object structures and gradually expanding to more complex sentences. Visual aids, such as pictures and diagrams, often enhance understanding and engagement. Through interactive activities and conversation practice, individuals gain confidence in constructing sentences, facilitating improved communication skills important for daily interactions. #superherospeech #shs #st #speechtherapy #ot #occupationaltherapy #aba #behavioraltherapy #feedingtherapy #ft
What an incredible adventure! The kids had a blast searching the office for their hidden treasures. We made sure to adapt the activity for everyone, using magnets for those who couldn’t follow directions independently. Throughout the hunt, we focused on: Phonemic Awareness Development: Getting the kids to find items starting with specific sounds, like ‘T’. Auditory Discrimination: Helping them distinguish between different sounds, which is vital for language development. Problem-Solving Skills: Encouraging them to think on their feet as they solved clues and overcame challenges. Visual Perception and Coordination: Practicing scanning their surroundings for hidden objects.
Imitating children can be an effective way to engage with them and encourage communication. Imitation can serve as a form of invitation for interaction. When a child sees you imitating their actions, they may feel more inclined to engage with you further, leading to increased interaction and communication attempts. For nonverbal children who are working on imitation skills, imitating their behaviors can provide a model for them to imitate in return. This can be an important step in their language and social development. 🫧🌟🤩
Building a tower of blocks in occupational therapy (OT) can be a fun way to work on various skills such as fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, visual perception, problem-solving, and social interaction. 🧱
Practicing emotions on an Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) device can be a valuable tool for children who have difficulties expressing themselves. It’s important for several reasons: Emotional Expression: Emotions are a crucial aspect of human interaction. Learning to express emotions allows children to convey their feelings, wants, and needs effectively, fostering better social relationships. Self-Regulation: Being able to express emotions helps children develop self-awareness and emotional regulation skills. When they can communicate their feelings, they are better equipped to manage them in constructive ways. Reducing Frustration: Communication difficulties can often lead to frustration for children who struggle to express themselves. Practicing emotions on an AAC device provides them with an alternative means of communication, reducing frustration and enhancing their overall well-being.
Obstacle courses can be highly beneficial for children. In this one, the client is targeting the following: Motor Skills Development: Obstacle courses require a combination of gross motor skills (large muscle movements) and fine motor skills (precise movements), such as balancing. Bilateral Coordination: Getting through an obstacle course often involves using both sides of the body in a coordinated manner. Spatial Awareness and Body Awareness: Maneuvering through obstacles requires children to be aware of their body’s position in reference to the space around them. Overall, obstacle courses provide a versatile and effective means for addressing a wide range of developmental and therapeutic goals in children. They are valuable tools which allow for a fun experience while acquiring new skills! 🟢🔵🪅
